no, but once the original gives you only the starting point for your own
hard work of sprite editing (with all the HW limitations of our VDP)...

I do not think the final result will look like the original (sadly I say...)

...and that makes it all okay to post the stolen graphics here all of a sudden?

/me even more confused and in need of a strong drink and/or holiday

To steal from one is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.

So in oder to link to 'that Finnish FTP site that shall remain unmentioned for the sake of MRC policies' I only have to think up a way to classify it as 'research'? Oh goody!

No, because:

does not only count for animated sprites, doesn't it?

At least this forumtopic is making me play Metal Slug again
...and reminding me I -still- haven't had the time to update the SNK|Get! part of my site *whistling innocently*

well, apart from if it's ripped or not,you don't realy learn much about animation or drawing, which
was what the topic was all about in the first place.Colour reduction can easily be done in photoshop
and same for resizing (colour reduction can be done with a fixed palette even if it's GIF,you can
reduce the colours to say 16 and "force" primaries or "black and white" also).
BUT...this is more post production...not creating original artwork...

Photoshop ? I would like to try this program, but it looks like very professional and EXPENSIVE.

It is like killing a fly with a cannon.

Do you have something more suitable to my needs (of postproduction if you like) ?

Freeware or shareware for example ? :-)
UleadGIF animator has a nice trial that is fully working, but has very reduced capabilities of editing.

I have heard about GIMP, does anyone have info about this program?

The Gimp is a great graphics tool. It has almost all functionality of Adobe Photoshop.
There is also a version that has the same menu layout as Photoshop.

But to draw pixel art for MSX I like JDraw most.
