I noticed one thing ... The 1chipMSX does have two slot connectors, but their are positioned very close. Probably, not all combinations of extra big cartridges would fit into the limited space of the case ... the exception is if someone could use a extensor cable!

[EDIT] Nulled my post.
Just (my) doubts about the (Japanese/any) OCM which (if I'm honest) didn't really add any relevance to the discussion.

I just came back from Tokyo with an OCM under my arm, but because of my lack of knowledge I wasn't able to load any game from the SD slot. I have been looking all over these forums but i stll don't have a clue. Is there any guide that explains step by step how to do it?. I apologize in advance if I'm asking something that it was already answered but sincerely I can only find some bits of information here and there but nothing that really shows how to do it from step 0. Thanks.

I still haven't managed to get the MSXmania disk series to run on OCM, any ideas ?
Yes, I do keep the CTRL key pressed on "boot up"

Using EP.COM:
EP FILENAME.DSK /B /R (for single image)
EP NAME???.DSK /B /R (for multiple images)
if u have many dsk, after reboot, press:
F7 to enable the disk image changer
0 to 9 to confirm (dsk0, dsk1, ..., dsk9)
ps. press CTRL after reboot if required!

I came back from Japan with a 1Chip last month. It's pretty exciting but I can't get games to load from the SD card.
I'm following the MGLOAD instructions at MSX Banzai but keep getting a Syntax Error.
Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong?

Syntax Error is not an error message from MSX Basic? MGLOAD works from DOS2 and for ROM files.
If I remember it well you just have to modify the switches of OCM (if necessary) and load a game by just typing:
MGLOAD GAME.ROM /sXX (where XX is the slot simulating the cartridge). And then you boot (by pressing reset) the OCM and the game should boot!

I tried it again. It still says 'Syntax Error' and reset just reboots the MSX.
What's this about DOS2? Are you saying I should be using something other than the text screen that appears when you switch the machine on?
If so, how do I get to it?

Okay. I figured out how to use DOS2 but now I'm getting a message that says "File reading error !"

Copy in the root of your SD card these files (I think they come with OCM CDROM):
- COMMAND2.COM
- MSXDOS2.SYS
- AUTOEXEC.BAT (not strictly necessary)
I hope this helps because I don't know what you see when you boot, but I pressume it is MSXBasic?

Phew. I just figured it out.
Using the "dir" command I noticed that the file names for my ROMs were too long. So "10 Yard Fight.ROM" had been shortened by DOS to "10yard~1.rom". Once I realised that, it worked a treat and I'm now enjoying the games.
Sorry for all the posts but I'm quite new to this. It's a huge learning process for me. But at least I'll be able to help out any other newbies who are stuck in the future, I guess.
Now to actually play some games!! |
