hi,
Does someone have any idea what "Turbo Booster" is? It's a program for MSXturboR, but I have never heard of it and I wondered if someone can tell me more about it... See http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/1767
(It seems some kind of tool to boot more quickly... but I think it already is quite quick on turboR...) |

Quite pointless to boot even quicker in the turboR |

I now think that it is a tool to boot games faster. Maybe it even uses the RAM of the turboR to form a kind of disk cache. If you can read Japanese, check the new photo material on the above GenMSX link! (Thanks to rklok!)

My Turbo-R GT boots quite slowly compared to my other msx2 computers, it takes about 10-12 seconds from the time the MSX2 logo appears until it reaches the basic prompt.
Are there settings I can change (maybe msxview related?) to speed this up?

As long as a screen shot is seen, it is visible to the tool which starts the software for MSX2(Z80) in the high-speed(R800) mode of turboR.

the boot of the Turbo-R GT is fast if the second drive is connected ;-)

I had the "Turbo booster" cartridge card once long time ago in my NMS 8280 for my computer draphics and tytler. I believe that was 20 years ago. It speeded up my computer at least 2x faster. This card doesn't work any more, but it was using a 7.1Mhz crystal in it.
One thing I remeber from it, when It died I took it apart and I saw the PCB. It had extra memory chip, a small prosessor and a ROM chip, that I hardly can remember today any detail, but it worked good for 3 years. Today I don't even know what I did to it.

vasmsx: I don't think that thing is related to the Turbo Booster I'm talking about in this thread.
It sounds like you are talking about a 7MHz circuit, which can be put on your MSX mainboard. If it's really a separate cartridge, then it's something quite unusual!

I would say you are right. In the picture you can see the logo of Turbo Booster, in yellow, but four letters are in red: BOOT (I would say that has something to do with booting the computer...). And, in G-MSX, this tool is in the software section... |

That's "Turbo Boost", without 'er'. But yeah, one can easily mix those up ;-)

From a quick peek to the manual on gen MSX this is a very simple program that enables the R800 and then allows you to boot any of your floppy games. Although I can't read the Q and A section on the back of the box, my guess is that the part with ROM in it explains that you cannot use this software to speed up your ROMs. |
