Orginally developed by Zemina for the MSX, a dump for Adventure Kid which is a clone of Adventure Island 2, has recently been released. The dump is from a multi-cart for the Sega Master System. The game runs in SG-1000 legacy mode on the SMS and the actual Adventure Kid game image on the multi-cart begins with 41 42 09 40, which means like several other titles such as Wonsiin, in theory it should boot up on an MSX. However I have tested it with blueMSX and it doesn't work for some reason. Wonsiin works with blueMSX, and selects the Konami mapper.

I have extracted the 128k game image from the multi-cart dump and attached it to this post. I don't know why it isn't working, but if there are any talented MSX hackers here that would be willing to have a look it would be much appreciated.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, logbomb, but on the MSX Resource Center we have a strict no-copyrighted-software policy. As it looks like this software title is still copyrighted, and not released into the public domain or declared freeware, I have deleted your attachment and link.

Perhaps people can already help you out with the amount of information provided in your post, though. And: if you or anyone else can prove copyright has been lifted of this specific title, we can offer the link and attachment once again. For the time being, you'll have to do with this though...

To know if Zemina original games are still copyrighted, I guess that only Korean users could give us the answer with the proof. It  can require really much time.

Fortunaly, not all MSX forums are so strict on this matter, especially when it concerns games with a very limited commercial audience.

Zemina and copyright, now that's a contradiction in terms.

Zemina and copyright, now that's a contradiction in terms.

Indeed ! Adventure Kid is a non-authorized clone of Adventure Island 2, released on NES. So, what means copyright in such a case ??? Question

Instead of repeating our annual and pointless semantics discussion on copyrights and website policies, lets see if we can help logbomb with the information at hand, shall we?

Just to note, I did upload the extracted file on the SMS forum mentioned, the only difference being that I used the .sg extension instead of .rom. These games like Wonsiin, could be run on either a Sega or MSX, as the sega interprets 41 42 as NOP. Why they did this is a mystery as the cartridge itself was not compatible with both systems. The important thing to note is we are not trying to get it to work as an SG game, but rather as an MSX Rom.

The same file has been made available on another MSX forum.

As far as the copyright is concerned, if you check the box art scan here:

http://www.smspower.org/Scans/4PakAllAction-SMS-AU

And look at the text in the bottom right corner, it states the following:
"It is not designed, sponsored or endorsed by Sega."

This game was never an officially released sega product, but it was also not a pirate cartridge, just a 3rd party unofficial release if you like. When it comes to Zemina, Open and HES, I think you can safely say there are no copyright problems.

If anyone would like to contact me, you can Private Message logbomb on the MSX Posse forum, as there does not appear to be a Private Message system on this forum.
