MSX Banzai! - V9990 Programmers Manual added

Extending its development section, MSX Banzai! was updated today with a V9990 Programmers Manual. The author hopes it will be a valuable document for programming new GFX9000 games and applications. The Yamaha V9990 is the most advanced video chip for MSX computers. A completely working VideoCard, the GFX9000 is sold by Sunrise for € 134,-.

The videochip is the the V9990, the cartridge is ofcourse more then simply the videochip, it includes also the PCB,case, label, 512k VRAM .
Would be an expensive chip otherwise

hmm.. that gfx9000 is not that expensive, but you need a slotexpander these days to run all your expansions.. a CF reader, (and luckily I've internal RAM to run dos2), an opl4 .. and then my 2 slots are used.

If a game requires an opl4 AND a gfx9000, then I couldn't run it from a CF card. Wouldn't it be possible to make one big cart with evereything on it ? opl4 (+sram), gfx9000, CF, (future-)network, maybe some extra RAM for the msx itself.. ? Basicly this would be like a complete msx, which only needs the host msx for psu, input/output, (hard)disk access etc.

One thing I would have liked to see on the V9990 is to have the video output coming thru the MSX and not thru the cart itself because really, having to deal with 2 monitors or a switchbox is a real pain in the (*|*)

wolf_: Get a slot splitter, both OPL4 and Gfx9000 are I/O based devices, so they can be connected to the same slot without problems.

maggoo: Video9000 does this, but it's unfortunately sold-out. Also the early v1.0 Gfx9000 had this functionality, but because of a lack of a GEN-LOCK, the image quality was bad. (washed out colors and horizontally unstable picture)

Version v2.0 also has this functionality, but the "qualtiy" is even wurse then version v1.0. However it would be posible with only a few extra components to make it work like a scart switch.

We've translated almost everything but the phrase "When VRAM read address has been modified to prepare the VRAM address data at completion of data write to R#5, it must be written in R#5" :) It is so even in firm (Yamaha) manual. What does it mean?
