On MSX, the number of full blown RPG games greatly exceeds the number of chess games. A chess game is perhaps a tad more difficult to make, not at least because the Z80 finally must actually do something for a change: it must think - be it artificially. A chess game is a silent game, and as a good chess AI takes its time, you won't find any other spectacular action in a chess game either. But such is certainly not required, funny animations and catchy pop tunes would only steal away your concentration. Like Tetris, it's a genre where gameplay is timeless!
ExChess, a freshly finished entry for this yearly contest, is the latest chess game to the not so very large slew of chess games on MSX. It was made by Garlicsoft; programmed by Jos'b and designed by Sutchan. As mentioned, as a chess game, it takes its time. The victory in the screenshot you see took little over 19 minutes. But, being a new chess game for MSX, it does deserve a fair share of appreciation!
There are only a few days left for the deadline. Rumours dictate that plenty developers are finishing up their entries, so this fourth entry probably won't be the final entry.
