Today, a new video popped up at YouTube showcasing what appears to be Manuel Pazos' next big bang: an MSX2 remake of Knight Lore, the isometric MSX1 game from 1986 by Ultimate Play The Game. This remake is visually as spectacular as the Alien 8 remake, maybe even better, although it's a different genre of course. In any case, this new remake represents some of the best graphics you can find in any MSX2 game. The video showing a bit of the gameplay is one you want to see. At once!

Thexder, released by Game Arts for several Japanese homecomputers (including MSX of course) and ported to other systems overseas by Sierra, is to be remade by Square Enix.
Square Enix are mostly known for their successful RPG series, notably Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, but have some experience with shooting games too, like Einhänder. MSX Thexder fans owning one of the aforementioned Sony consoles will rejoice.

| | Monday, December 29, 2008 - 19:12 Submitted by: Bart Topic: Remakes | | On MSX, the Nemesis saga is one of the most popular game concepts by Konami, perhaps only topped by their Metal Gear games. And not without reason: the Nemesis games (including Parodius and Salamander) were great action games with memorable music, stunning graphics for MSX1 and great gameplay. Later on in history, Space Manbow would lift up Konami's shooter concept to quality levels comparable with those from 16bit consoles from the same time. It's the old Nemesis/Gradius series however which seems to stand the test of time. Often, retro fanatics keep themselves busy with these games, and that has happened just once more!
It's called Nemesis online, by Kotai. Judging from the screenshots alone, this production looks very polished, while still not losing that magical sense of retro here and there. It's well worth checking out if you are a Nemesis fanatic!

New in this version is that all the stages of Nemesis 1 have been finished! Also available are videos of the new levels. Which leaves us with an important question, would there ever be a game like this for the Graphics9000? It certainly looks doable for this chip!

The original game dates back to 1988 and was released by Dinamic, a company from Spain. While the MSX version had the typical mono-color looks, this remake is -as one can expect- highly colorful and detailed.
The game is available for Windows and Linux. A video and screenshots of the game are available at their website, highly recommended!

| | The Nemesis Online project by Kotai keeps progressing. It's a remake of the nemesis series using modern graphics, yet still having that retro style. Meanwhile we're facing version 0.26f already, containing a stage full with megabosses (including the big bird!). The Nemesis Online website features videos demonstrating all these.

Knightmare Gold is an MSX2 remake of Konami's classic Knightmare, originally released for MSX1 in 1986. Using the capabilities of the MSX2, the Knightmare gold remake adds multicolor sprites, the possibility to use the Knightmare Audio CD for BGM, different color settings and the famous double wave Konami logo as a bootscreen. The game will be released on a CD-ROM and will function as a patch to the original Knightmare ROM.
On the Knightmare Gold website you can find a lot of information on the project (in Portuguese), download MIDI and XM arrangements of the Knightmare songs and have a look at a screenshot of the loader of the game.
