I'm new to the MSX and I have an opportunity to trade for a one chip MSX. It comes with the box and is in like new condition. Can someone help me out with a value so I know what is a fair trade for it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

When they were still available, they sold new for 200 EUR.

Would you know what they go for now? And thanks for that info.

The OCMs have become pretty scarce, so the prices have gone up quite a bit. I've seen them change owners for ~€ 500,- multiple times.

Or you can "build" one, even with additional joystick ports, for just 150 Euros, by using an Altera DE1 board Smile

If you think you need a FPGA MSX, then indeed building your own, like vanfanel said, using an Altera DE1 board would be the most sensible thing to do.

Thank you for that information but I'm a technical idiot, lol. So that's out of the question for me. I can play them but I can't build them.

No, Neogeomaniac67: you CAN build them. It's dead-easy: don't be fooled by the term "building". You won't build a thing, believe me (well, except for a nice case, wich you will want if you don't want your board to be exposed to dust, etc).

Step one: get the board. If you're spanish, use es.farnell.com to buy it. You'll get it next day!!

Step two: download Caro's latest test version, wich even has PAL and NTSC MSX support. Caro is the 1ChipMSX-AlteraDE1 inventor, my MSX hero, the man I'd marry if I'd be a woman. The file is here: http://www.caro.su/msx/ocm_de1/de1_vga_50hz.zip

Step three: connect the board to a PC with Linux or (puaajjjjj) lame-windows, load the Altera programmer wich comes with the board, set the board in programming mode (move a switch, that's all), choose "active serial programming", chose the POF file and click "program".

Step four: put mgload, romload, ep.com, etc.. in an SD card formatted in FAT16, along with some ROMs and DSKs... and there you go!!!

Now believe me: if you're an MSX fan, you'll get a physical MSX, NO software emulation, just programmable gate arrays. A true MSX2+ machine with AWESOME powers: loads of RAM, virtually enless HDD space, a FAST CPU and a VERY FAST VDP, on-board FM audio, Konami SCC.. Ohh man it makes me so horny I'll have to play Space Manbow to get a fix after I finish writting this!!

I'm agree with Vanfel, you don't need any knowledge, just do the steps described in the previous post, It's fast, easy and the cheapest way to get an "1chip MSX"
