Does anyone has the Yamaha YSS225 (Sound FX processor) datasheet? It was suppose to be a companion chip for the OPL4.

Here is the datasheet being looked for by a lot of people!
I propose to cooperate on its implementation and support in MSX machines.
Anyone is willing translating it from Japanese to English?

It shouldn't be very hard with a translator because there are texts in the pdf.

Overview:

YSS225 (EP) is an audio signal processing LSI for adding various effects (reverb, delay, flange, distortion, auto pan, etc.) for game consoles to digital audio output such as sound source LSI for example.
Each effect can be realized by transferring the setup data to this LSI, and it is possible to add multiple types of effects independently to the input channel at the same time. In addition, since the setup data is prepared in advance, it is possible to create the optimum sound in a short period of time.
In particular, by using it in combination with Yamaha sound source LSI, you can easily realize a high-quality and multifunctional sound source system.

Specifications:

  • Input supports up to 8 channels with 4 stereo systems (16/18 bit, MSB first).
  • Output supports 2 stereo systems (16/18 bit, MSB first), 2 front and 2 rear speakers.
  • It is possible to add an independent effect to each input channel.
  • Since it is interfaced with the YMF271 (OPX), various effects can be added to FM sound or PCM sound.
  • Uses 2 or 4 x 256k-bit pseudo SRAM. When using four, up to about 1.5 seconds can be allocated to the delay time area for various effects.
  • Sampling frequency (????s) is 32kHz to 48kHz.
  • The master clock is 384????s or 25qs.
  • YAMAHA Si gate CMOS process.
  • 100-pin QFP (YSS225-F).

It seems the "fs" (sampling frequency) got lost in the translation but it should be obvious if looking at the original text.

I don't want to translate the whole thing, but if there is a particular section the machine translator struggles with I can help.

I did not realize that ƒs disappeared with copy/paste.

Is there any public knowledge about that DSP microprogram data?

I know some Turtle Beach ISA PC sound card had this DSP (because I actually have one of it here), apparently there is Linux drivers for the said card. (Turtle Beach "Tropez plus")
