Have read the new manual 'cause in process of deciding to flash the newest firmwares to my MFR. Now the manual says that
"The disk image files must not be fragmented, that is, their contents must be placed across consecutive sectors in the device."
So how do i check/achieve that the file is contiguous and not fragmented and what kind of issues one will run if fragmented file used? Or maybe there's some tool to unfragment particular files?
I'm asking just because FAT filesystems could fragment files and if you actively use the partition you'll definitely get a file scattered on it.

The easiest way is to copy all files in the SD card to the PC, then erase the card and copy them back to the card.

BTW, ToughkidCST from SouthKorea translated MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD user's manual to Korean. It is available on MSX Cartridge Shop.
Thanks!

Hello.

I am a completely new MSX user after I found a Sony HB-F1XDJ in a used game shop. Recently, I ordered this MegaFlashRom, and it is great, but I am having some trouble understanding everything.

It's embarrassing, but I made a mistake. I pressed up to go into recovery mode and used the F3 function. Now, I can only boot to the Nextor Basic system, and I don't know how to use this at all.

How can I recover my system?

The SD card is still being recognized, so the SD Kernel seems to be OK. I have no idea what else to do, though.

Thank you!

See the Installation section of the manual.

Download ROMDISK.DSK, then put OPFXSD.COM, ROMDISK.DSK file and the DOS operating system files COMMAND2.COM and NEXTOR.SYS in the root of the SD card. Then install the romdisk by typing OPFXSD romdisk.dsk /ID on the DOS prompt.

Welcome to the forums SamIAm. It's nice to see you from the PCEnginefFX Forums and glad to hear that you're getting into using MSX hardware now. This a great community and there are several treasures to be experienced on MSX.

I think it's a funny coincidence, but the first day that I received my MegaFlashRom SCC+SD cart, I did the same thing and accidently deleted my DISKROM. Fortunately Guillian (Manuel) created such a nice device with restoration options just in case we delete what we are not supposed to...

Thanks a lot to both of you!

I was shy to ask such a noob questions, but it's reassuring to see that this seems to be a very nice community.

By the way, I can't find it at the moment, but I swear that I was looking at a version of the manual that had fewer pages. It didn't have the Nextor or Multimente sections. Really, I swear. There must be an odd link somewhere.

Thanks again!

Hello again everyone.

Thanks to your help, I got it to work again. I think I'll be fine if I ever make that particular mistake again, too. Smile

I've been trying to solve as many issues as I can by myself, but I suppose that at this point, I really ought to ask one more thing.

I experience random failures when I try to flash roms. I have seen a rom work once, then when I try to flash the same file again later, the progress bar freezes at some point like oooooo........... . I am having trouble determining if the problem is the system, the flashcart, the SD card, or the roms themselves. It can happen with any rom I've tried.

Using the /1 option seems to help a lot, but I still experience failures maybe 20% of the time I try to flash something that way. I have also noticed that throttling the system a little via that speed control bar seems to help, too, but I haven't done enough tests to be confident about its effect.

I have tried using a different SD card by a different manufacturer. It did not seem to help.

Does anyone have any advice? Where do you think the problem is?

Thank you!

Try cleaning the cartridge slot connectors. Use a credit card or similar, wrap it with a cloth, wet the cloth with isopropyl alcohol (or contact cleaner) and insert and remove the card in the slot, checking you clean all the connector pins.

Also clean the cartridge pins.

Thanks for your reply.

I should have mentioned that I did that a lot already. If you think that a dirty cart-slot and/or cart pins is causing the problem, I'll try it one more time. However, I can't help but suspect that the cause is something else.

Thanks again. Smile

I've not encountered a problem like this with the loading of the ROM freezing before unless for example there was an issue with the MFRSCC+SD not assigning the correct Mapper type. Odd that it works sometimes and not others. Sounds like a finicky connection or something happening where something gets unseated during the process. Manuel can probably clarify further, but I doubt the Turbo/Rensha slider would have an effect on the loading process since that is typically used for auto-fire purposes iirc, not speeding up the processor speed. I don't think I've ever used it.

SamIAm, could you describe your process for loading a game? Do you load it through the Multimente File System from the SD card or directly inside of MSX-DOS/DOS2 using the command line? Which games are you trying?
