Hi guys,

Sorry if this has been posted before, is there such thing as an official MSX-DOS 1 floppy disk (or image) contianing the boot files and an official set of external commands (.COM files) - somewhat like an MSX equivalent to an MSX versions of what an MS-DOS disk would be on the PC?

I have the COMMAND.COM and MSXDOS.SYS files and can boot MSX DOS 1 but without some of the commands I'd expect to see, it's not very useful.

Also, is there any MSX-DOS 1 and MSX-DOS 2 utilities disks that yowoudl recommend?

Yes, there are official disks of the MSX-DOS. AFAIK, it usually came bundled as OEM with the computers, or with the external disk interfaces.

But I'm not sure what came in that disk besides the MSX-DOS.SYS and COMMAND.COM, but AFAIK the operating system had only those two files. This was MSX-DOS v1.0, remember. MS-DOS 1.0 was nearly identical, with the exception that many of the commands that were internal on the MSX were external on the PC version to save RAM.

I know that many makers included their own utilities/applications with the operating system, just like it happens with modern computers/smartphones.

As for the utility disks, here goes some recommendations:

MSX-DOS1:
- MSX-DOS Tools, by ASCII

MSX-DOS2:
- MSX-DOS2 tools, by ASCII
- MSX 100 Free Software Selection, by Takeru (this one is fantastic)

There are also some utilities on the MSX.org download section but, sadly, it has no specific "Utilities" category, so you'll have to browse inside the "Related" category to find them.

It's also important to note that MSX-DOS is backwards compatible with the CP/M-80 v2.2. This means it can run nearly all CP/M applications directly, so you can also get utilities for that system too.
