make sure you have the switch left of the reset button slided completely to the left... if it's not completely to the left it will show that error (blue screen with one line in the center) about not enough memory being present.

What is that little switch for? I have been assuming its the 'turbo' switch to move from 3 to 5 MHz.
That switch is not a turbo switch. Only a firmware switch. Right is of, left is on.
In fact there is no turbo switch at all. It can only be switched to turbo mode by software/out commands. Check the wiki of any panasonic msx2+
