Sure, you are all right. But if you discover such a gem
right now and you are working, married with children an so on,
then a short cut to the end could be interesting...
You don't need a map or anything (that just spoils). Just some (non-essential, but rather handy) items are impossible to get (and use even) without having a(n outside) clue. I believe these were originally 'spoiled' by Konami in some magazine, or via the game hints hotline or something? Oh, and a certain essential item is kinda impossible to get w/o a hint as well
The feather will come in handy in exploring the castle.
Then there are these rooms with 'bubbles'... You might figure out what to do there / what's that for (by accident perhaps)
You can find a game manual on archive.org or elsewhere.
Note: there's an MSX2 version coming up (might not be too far away now?)
Note2: an unofficial sequel is in the making.
Of course / indeed we can give hints for that impossible stuff without spoiling anything else :)
Does anyone know more about these 'official' hints Konami released to the public (links to magazines or otherwise)?
It was never my kind of game (don't have the patience for it - ADD is a bitch)
So how 'stealth' did you do Metal Gear?
Okay, I'm giving this game a shot. I have a question: How do I use the white arrows? It says to move your character. I'm moving. I have them equipped, and nothing happens.
As for how to approach this game, I decided to see how much I can do before entering the first dungeon. This tip also works with just about every single Zelda game.
Use N or M.
No need to go to every corner of the castle first before entering World 1 btw (you can pretty much 'go with the flow' )

That's a fair point!

Ofcourse I did. What I meant is more the heavy-on-exploration part. I know a lot of people actually enjoy that.
Let's say, for instance the Ys games, that's just the amount of exploration (labyrinthine maps, crossroads...) that I can suffer.
Please do find the manual online and read it. It helps you to get through the basics without any spoilers
In that case It would be very beneficial to have a map of the castle.
I don't understand so many people would want to get a map and solution out. I almost wish i could not know the layout of the castle and how the game works just to explore everything and figure everything out. That is what i loved in the game; exploring the castle finding its treasures. I would love if the game had random elements like the spells and locations of the spells. Or on a bigger scale even item locations, worlds or more. Other systems have things like random zelda etc. I could totally get behind the for MoG.
That is why I liked Sir Dan and why I will love the sequel and the msx 2 remake: new things to explore.
+1 to what Manuel said. Without the manual, it's almost impossible to know what some items do. And some are key to beating the game. For example, you could get easily stuck in world 2 without the instructions...
