Microcabin Co., Ltd. is a company that started its activities in 1982 as a software developer. In fact the company history reveals it was officially founded in 1981 and even earlier, being still present within the computer world as a subsidiary company of AQ Interactive Co., Ltd.
Many and excellent titles were produced in the Microcabin offices. We, the MSX users, were lucky to have this company supporting our beloved home computer since its birth and providing us many hours of fun since the mid 80s. However all changed when the MSX-MUSIC sound extension was introduced as a standard of sound in 1987. Since then Microcabin revolutionised the MSX world in the same way Konami did with the introduction of the SCC soundchip.
Xak: The Art of Visual Stage, Xak II: Rising of the Redmoon, Xak: The Tower of Gazzel, Fray, Illusion City, The Tower of Cabin, Princess Maker, Final Fantasy and Daisenryaku II: Campaign Version were high quality products with stunning FM soundtracks. Back in those days there were no words to express what we felt when playing those games with such a impressive sound, the game experience improved considerably without a doubt. From that moment on, Microcabin became the reference and for many of us, no other company was able to take full advantage of the MSX-MUSIC sound ever.
That said, it is a pleasure to introduce this special gift that the MSX Resource Center brings to you all today, an interview with the Microcabin music staff! We started working on this project several years ago, once Yukiharu Urita kindly accepted our proposal (he even made the English translation!). A project that our team carefully prepared with a lot of enthusiasm but unfortunately it was halted for different reasons, the global situation... Now after a long wait it's finally here!
At first the possibility of interviewing the whole team (Yukiharu Urita, Tadahiro Nitta and Yasufumi Fukuda) was very close but at the end only Tadahiro Nitta was able to answer the questions. It is worth mentioning that Yukiharu Urita was supporting him remembering those good old days.
As the Microcabin's corporate philosophy states now "Think together, create together, prosper together, rejoice together" so together we did it! This is our contribution to the MSX scene and chiptune lovers in general. Please enjoy this journey to the past reading those lines.
The MSX Resource Center team would like to express our deepest gratitude to Yukiharu Urita and Tadahiro Nitta for
kindly accepting this interview and share their experiences with the MSX community around the world.
Also thank you so much to user fukenko for his valuable help. This interview would not have been possible without his support in the text translation.
