Hi, I'm currently writing an article on old Korean video games. I noticed MSX Club Gouda offered a number of Korean import games for sale in the Quasar Diskmag, and I'd like to learn more about how this deal came to be, and maybe even approximately in what quantities these games reached Europe back then.

I saw members of the Dutch MSX scene from back then post here, so I thought maybe someone could help me with getting in contact with them.

There doesn't seem to be a function for personal messages in this forum (right?), I can be reached by email under derboo [at] derboo [dot] de

The only member I could find while googling is Roderik Muit. You might be able to get some other contact details through him.
From what I could find, members of MSX Club Gouda were Gert de Boom, Arjan Prosman, Roderik Muit and Jurgen Kramer. Most of them have LinkedIn pages, but seeing as none mention any relation to MSX on their public LinkedIn, I'm not certain they are the right persons.

Hopefully someone else on MRC can give some better info. :)

Actually, there is a Prosman Riethandel (reed tradeshop?) located on the old Quasar address (Middelblok 159, 2831BM Gouderak).
You could try contacting them :) According to this intro page of the company website, there is also an Arjan Prosman an export manager there. ;) Would be a too big coincidence for that name to be related to the same address.

Good luck :)

Got a private e-mail about this Forum item. I have to say that although it is has been a long time we prefer not to disclose our suppliers nor the number of sales for the items we have sold. I'm sorry about this.

Sent a reply to your e-mail. Even though it is a refusal (which I can completely understand), thanks a lot for replying. Smile

Games where imported by Jaap Boomsma, former shop owner of MSX Centrum in Amsterdam. I was there when the shipment arrived. I think the total amount of games where about two square metres, dimension wise. I am talking early 1990 here. Exact dates can be deducted by looking at old msx magazines. Which dates did the MSX centrum start advertising, when did he stopped, and when did MSX Gouda started? I probably have some leaflets of fairs to check. I think Gouda got the left overs of Jaap somewhere around 1994-1995. If I remind correctly initial investment was 20.000-25.000 gulden (10k euro). Selling price was starting at 30 gulden (/2.2 for euros) for the basic msx1 titles. msx2, konami bootlegs where more expensive, i believe up to 80 guldens. I am not sure what gouda paid Jaap, but a lot of people told me that Jaap never paid the Koreans for the shipment.. Anything else?

I read about that 1990 Centrum import in an old Korean magazine (according to it, it would have been July).

That couldn't have been the only shipment ever to be imported, though. Quasar had listed games that were programmend in 1991 and 1992.

I'd be grateful for any info from those leaflets concerning Centrum advertisement (I believe Gouda advertisement is well covered in Quasar).

Which episodes of Quasar contain info about Korean imports?

I think 24 through 29 have them in the catalogue (Didn't check everything in between or before, but 24, 25 and 29 definitely have them, while 21, 22, 23 don't).

Hmm, this makes me want to talk with Jaap Boomsma, too. Any chance of contacting him?
