New vintage magazine in Spain

A new magazine, called First Generation, has just been launched in Spain. This magazine is a initiative of formers members of Retrogames (first retro-magazine inSpain), and Game Over radio show. The magazine focuses on computers and videogames from the 70's, 80's and early 90's.

As you probably all know the MSX Resource Center is available in English, Spanish, Dutch and Portuguese.

The annual Brazilian MSX fair MSX Jaú has just been announced. This year the fair will be held on November 13th, 14th and 15th at the Escola Industrial of Jaú, Brazil. During these three days MSX users from all over Brazil gather to share their common hobby: MSX.

Remakes of MSX games seem to be growing in popularity lately: Leandro Correia just released the first beta version of his Skooter remake. All collisions with enemies and blocks are done, graphics are for 99% finished. The only thing missing is different floor shapes for each stage. The game is playable, although the enemies don't kill you and you can't commit suicide.

MNBIOS 3rd demo updated

Unfortunately, the DPF550 version of the 3rd MNBIOS demo which was bundled with openMSX had a small packing-problem that caused it to malfunction. The problem was an outdated ROM image which was booted by openMSX.

About two weeks ago the retrogaming music archives of Retro PC Game Music were updated with the PC-9801 soundtrack of Microcabin's Illusion City.

Roland MT-32 emulator 0.62

More than a year ago we reported about the Roland MT-32 emulator for DOS/Windows, which can be used to hear the MT-32 MIDI songs of games like Illusion City and Xak - Tower of Gazzel.

As of yesterday a new version of this MT-32 emulator is available, improving emulator accuracy. Unfortunately only the DosBox version was updated.

Robsy's MSX Workshop - updated

Eduardo Robsy updated his website yesterday. He added two PDF documents of some well-known MSX chips to his page: one about the Texas Instruments' TMS9918 VDP and one about the Zilog's Z-80 user manual. These new technical documents have extensive and in-depth specifications of both the MSX core and graphics engine.

Bussum 2004 - Fair & Marathon report

On October 9th the 16th edition of the annual MSX fair in Bussum was held. During that fair, of which you can find a photoshoot over here, MSX Resource Center celebrated their 10th anniversary, several new products were released and announced and lots of used hardware and software products found their way to new owners.

On July 18th we started the third MSX Resource Center development contest: the MRC Bounce Challenge. Now, thirtheen weeks later, this challenge has come to an end. Once again, many active MSX developers (novice and experienced) showed their skills by creating nice bouncy demo's or games.
