The image compression toolkit BARGAIN received an other update, adding a cipher, progress bar and scraping no less than 60 bytes off the (de)compression routine. Also, an issue with switching disk drives was fixed.
MSXdev'11: Exchess announced
The MSXdev train continues its smooth ride along the track. If all contenders are able to stick to their plans, the amount of entries may well be higher than the those of the last few editions. The latest announced entry is to become a chess game. Considering the vast AI a chess game usually has, it would be a tough challenge for most coders.
ANMA was one of the most famous Dutch demo and game groups from the 90's. Both their demos (Squeek promos, The Source of Power, Relax and many others) and their games (Squeek, No Fuss, Nosh, Frantic and Troxx) were very popular in their days due to their technical merits and unique artwork.
Yesterday, the 39th edition of RU Barcelona took place. One of the visitors has made a video recording of the event, and uploaded it to YouTube. The video gives a good impression of the day, with people like Sapphire from QBIQS fame, viejo_archivero from Relevo Videogames and Sander from SuperSoniqs among many many others. MMC/SD BIOS 4.04
Sharksym has released a new bios version for his SD/MMC card.
While testing the Denyonet card at Sunrise' home, a bug in its BIOS was found that caused some computers to hang as soon as the floppy disk drive was accessed (the bug was reproduced on Philips MSX2 machines but not on Turbo-R machines). As MRC user caro has pointed out, the Obsonet BIOS had the same problem.
Today, Quadrivium declared the MSX turbo-R shoot-em-up Zone Terra freeware. Zone Terra is a vertical shooter with several astronomical MSX2+ images in the background, making it one of the few games to feature such MSX2+ graphics.
On the third of May a two hour radio show was broadcast in Finland. The subject was 30 years of home computers. One of the first callers asked what the difference is between MSX and Android.
