Of course composing for both chips separately and then later on mixing it, like hap suggested, is not so charming and would make composing a good mix between both chips quite the hassle.
Either Arkos or VT supporting both chips would be amazing Smile

IMHO, a really up-to-date music editing application would do the MSX scene much good. Wink

Well, Vortex Tracker II sources (Deplhi) are available for download on the VTII site (hint hint)

Huey: everybody knows composers can't code. That's just cruel. ^_^

Not only composers see this thread.
anyway, Demonseed is a code guru in the making. Really Tongue

I already looked into the code of VTII and was able to support the editing/playing of 3 simultaneous songs. So it should not be too much work to hack in support for SCC. (1 song for 3 psg channels and 2 songs for 5 channel SCC (one channel is omitted on export).
At the moment I am too busy with other MSX projects (and my pascal knowledge is 15 years old).

P.S. The re-player will be the hardest part. As it probably will be a lot more CPU expensive as the normal PT3 re-player. So probably a new re-player has to be made that will process a more CPU friendly data format.

I had a very quick look at the VTII source.

In Delphi 6, I had to comment out a couple of lines (because of a missing TRadioGroup.Buttons property in D6 or was it TGroupBox, I don't remember) to get it to compile. It runs and makes sound, but the pattern data isn't drawn correctly. Selection rectangles are probably OK, but the texts are drawn incorrectly, probably due to some mismatch in calculating the font/text extents.

In Delphi 2010, there's some difference in character handling, so I had to change PAnsiChar --> PChar in a few places to compile. The pattern editor looks more sane, but it doesn't play sound.

What comes to Arkos Tracker, Targhan/Arkos doesn't want to open the sources at this point.

How about adding SID support to SCMD? Of course, there is no SCMD tracker, but an MML compiler, but I think it would not be impossible to get SCMD support to a tracker. Check those songs available on the Special Music section to get an impression of what already can be achieved.

MSX needs a new music soft. Not mandatory to be a tracker. Support for more chips, but it doesn't mean all those chips need to be used at same time. Same tracker/sequencer could do PSG tunes, or SCC tunes or SID tunes... no need to mix all chips always.
It needs a module to play notes, then there will other module which can send those notes to the proper audio processor/replayer, to PSG, or SCC, or whatever. Modular style...
A bit like a modern DAW with VST plug-ins Wink But at MSX scale, more simple. Still a hard work, but dreaming is free Running Naked in a Field of Flowers
