Hello,

I have a Panasonic WSX (MSX2+) with a 256kb mapper and I tried running Spanish games such as "Navy Movies", "Hundra", "Dustin", "Batman" and others from Dinamic, Opera and so on.
Some of them like "Goody" were OK when I changed the POKE -1,170 in .BAS loader for POKE -1,0. But others, unfortunately no way.Hello,

Thanks a lot,

For different reasons, a little amount of MSX (1-2-2+) software doesn't work on a Turbo-R and some MSX 2+.

The main reason is the different architecture of these machines. In a standard MSX 2, only the slot 3 is extended in subslots. In a MSX Turbo-R, the slot 0 is also extended and includes the BIOS in a subslot :

Slot 0-0: 32KB Japanese MSX Turbo-R BIOS-ROM
Slot 0-2: 16KB FM Music BASIC ROM
Slot 0-3: 16KB LogoTurbo-R ROM

So, if the programmer doesn't have thought that the BIOS could be in a subslot in place of a normal slot, then it can happen that the software won't run.

For example, the Station demo "New Sensation" doesn't work on Turbo-R (and some MSX2+ that have the same architecture as a Turbo-R) : after the intro, you go to ... a reboot !!!

In some cases, you can indeed use a special poke to get some "difficult" software working on a Turbo-R. But it's not an universal solution, alas !

Ask Martos, because he is the genius that has adapted many of that MSX1 tape games to run perfectly in Turbo-R machines. His disk and rom versions are great. Better ask in hispamsx@yahoogroups.com or the "international" mailing list, msx@stack.nl

Have fun,

But some MSX "computers" (2+ and Turbo R) can't play or load tape games in anyway ... [except using special programs or adapted software]

Is there a disk version of those games !?

Many of the old MSX1 games were made without caring about MSX standard that caused them not to work on all MSX-computers. POKE -1,170 POKE -1,0 etc. are good examples of these. (POKE -1,(15-PEEK(-1)\16)*17 works on all MSX computers) Expetially software that was ported from cassette to disk by hobbyists were many times not done properly... Sometimes there are different versions around and some may be better than other. Sometimes tricks like inserting external memorymapper may help.

Also original MoonBlaster replayer has a bug in MSX-Music detection that causes many european MSX2 software not to work on A1WX and A1WSX.

I'm sorry, but there is no easy, universal solution to your problem.
