I'm not going into the discussion about you actually having the cartridge or not. But I hope you learned now that in this small community, we should respect the active developers. That includes not-(re)distributing their games that are for sale or making cracks.
thanks! Smile

It has another consequence : before buying new cartridge games, people who prefer to play on emulators should first get infos about the fact if the game is anti-emulator protected or not. In case of doubt, don't buy ! Tongue

I wonder what Konami did, back in the day, when a lot of people were using pirate copies of their MSX and Nintendo games.
Yes, in the "good old days", not now (when it's old software and you can crack it anyway you want it).

I'm talking about all of us, of this "cosy little community", who bought pirate games & apps and/or copied games & apps from friends, don't tell me you didn't. We all had lots of disks and cassettes with lots of copied games.

We all did and we all do, with MSX, Sega, Nintendo, Playstation, movies, mp3, whatever.

But then it doesn't count, because they're all big companies, they can afford to lose big time money.

However, if a game from a "little tiny cute coochy-coo" community is cracked, the author will perish, all hell must be unleashed, people must die, the community will be destroyed...

Drama, drama, drama...

What happened is sad and wrong, but people take it too much out of proportion.

That may be a bit in your own mind, you're exaggerating as we go and seem to like this. Tongue
Kralizec's motivation is damaged - if it's permanent, we'll see.
On the other hand, if there are not much games/tools/demos or anything released, people may resort to soap-opera. So like pitpan and many others already said

gamesprays.com/images/examples/Choppa_475.jpg

and start developing games!!!

So vanfanel, you kind of thought that you're entitled to play the game, even if you didn't own the proper machine to run it? Question

sure. like the classic megarom and memory mappers that enabled you to play games without the proper cartridges.

I think the reason for the overreaction was because it wasn't an unknown user or someone else who released the cheat, but from a former blueMSX co-developer. Stan Lee might say: "With great power there must come great responsibility". But....

We should stop being hypocrites. Many here say: oh you can cheat and run it on the emulator at home but you can't publish the cheats. And those words come from people who JAILBREAK theirs iPhones, install Mac OS X on their PCs, etc. I believe those people developed themselves their own jailbreak and mac os hacks before saying these words. Even then US court said we have the right to jailbreak our phones so why we can't jailbreak a game ? I'm not saying that you should download it without paying the author.

I'm not blaming or pointing the finger, Kralizec has the right to put any lock they want in their games as mars2000you has the right to publish cheats to allow them to be run on the emulator he co-developed. What is the reason to make an emulator if all software is protected ? In any moment mars2000you promoted the piracy. "Oh, don't give the bullets that kill people blah blah blah", but everybody here already uses the weapon he helps to make: blueMSX without thinking on it.

But if you download a ROM knowing that you shouldn't that's something you must deal with your conscience.

I agree that the best would be blueMSX to emulate the real cartridge as it does with Manbow2 as the word cheat has a bad connotation.

And Kralizec, please, reconsider it. All the community is suffering from your depart.

Let's show our support from a different way: How many people here would buy the Goonies if it was put back on sale again ? We should do a list as they did with Sonyc.

The problem concerns indeed only a very special cheat allowing to play the game on an emulator. People who have buyed the cartridge have the right to make a dump and to use it on an emulator. But apparently, this right does not exist in a part of the MSX community. Crying

Just to clear things up: I think (not sure if Kralizec think the same), the problem is not playing the game on an emulator, but hacking the ROM to remove the copy protections and hardware checks.
Some games check if SCC is available (is that an anti emulator check?) Other, like MegaFlashROM cartridges, check SCC, flashROM, mapper, etc... just to check they can work correctly. I don't think that checks are there to avoid emulation, just to ensure things work as they should.

Goonies 'R' Good Enough checks the hardware and uses it to run the game. So if you want to play it on emulator, just fix or improve the emulator. Then, using your original cartridge, you can get all you need to run your copy.

But, if you only got a ROM dump from other person, then it could be a bit difficult to understand how the hardware works in order to improve the emulator.

mmmh... Krazilec, the buyers are always right!!! this is a rule of market!
This years is 2011... not 1985, and the MSX community it's not very big of thinking to gain.

My OCM-PLD firmware are free to download, like source code. This is support the MSX without ask money.
Happy MSX into 21st century!!

Kind Regards
