Hi, name's Elio, I'm from Rome. I'm reeeaaally new to the MSX world, so probably all of my questions will seem very dumb to you all, but please have some patience.
I'm a huge video game collector and I'm planning on buying a japanese Sony Hit Bit F1XDMK2 with Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2 and Akumajō Dracula. I'd like to use the english patch for the MG games, but frankly I haven't got a clue of how to do it.
All I know is that I need a floppy disk XD
Any suggestions?

Thank you very much Smile

To apply the patch, the best tool is IPSEXE :

http://www.zophar.net/utilities/patchutil/ipsexe.html

First step : create a new.exe file from the ips.file

To create an EXE patch from an existing IPS patch:

1) Click on the "Create EXE Patch from existing IPS file" radio button.

2) Use the Browse button to select the patch

3) Use the Browse button to select the file to patch

4) Click "Next"

On the next screen, you must type the name of the EXE file that will be created and click on the button to save the file.

If this is good, you will get the message "Patch created !"

Second step : use the new .EXE file

1) Run this file

2) Click on "Patch"

The patch is very fast and you'll get the message "File patched successfully"

Remark : if the name of the rom to patch is too long, it's better to use the browse button before clicking on "Patch"

(other option is to rename with a short name before using IPSEXE)

Guys I think you misunderstood me, you told me how to install the patch on a rom. What I meant was if anyone knew how to apply the patch on an actual MSX cartridge, I read somewhere that it is possible. Do you know something about it? Thanks.

You can't directly apply the patch on a real cartridge as it implies re-writing (flashing) of the rom or writing (flashing) on an empty rom.

So you need first to apply the patch on the rom file before going to the hardware step. I guess other MSX fans will explain that part.

You can buy a MegaFlashROM SCC+ at The MSX Cartdrige shop. I have one I recommend it. It's a very high quality device.

For patches, have a look here and here.
