The physics are not that difficult really. The problem is that it may not be doable on z80 at reasonable speed. So the challenge will be to find a balance between realism and speed.

Well I guess there's always a way to precalc some stuffs and use some tables so that it doesn't take THAT much CPU time. It's probably how it was done for other MSX Pinball games. Roler Ball isn't perfect but I'd say "good enough".

Well... If you would make a new pinball game on MSX, I think you should go for a Turbo-R version. This machine gives you the power & speed to kick some serious butt and make the game look & feel awesome. There are already enough challenges which limit the resources you can use. Why not try to go for the ultimate this time? Smile

As you know, Pinball Dreams was on GB and Game Gear and Pinball Ilusions was also in GB... so... why T-R? Or remember Pinbot and HIgh Speed for NES. Also, in Amstrad or Spectrum were pinball games...

http://www.pcpinball.com/history/msx.html
For the freaks among us (hey, my name is still on that page!)

The best 4 PC: All pinballs made by Cunning, they have great logic to calculate ball behaviour!:
Pro pinball the web,
pro pinball timeshock
pro pinball big race usa
pro pinball fantastic journey _best_

In Fantastic journey, the ball can bounce up against the glass, can have dust on the ball to make the spinning of the ball vissible etc... Maybe this is to much for a 3.5 Mhz Z80 to simulate, but a new MSX pinball would be great!

I started with pinball fantasy 4PC and ended up with around 200 tables to play on PC...

maybe you missed a point its for gfx9990 its so bloody fast and btw what could be so hard in making the calculations?
even a space shuttle's reley on a z80 CPU (the whole space shuttle releys on 9 z80's)....... so telling me that the z80 would not able to make an engine to make a realistic movement in combination with realistic gravity.... yes some heavy math calculations yes........ but a z80 is fast enough to make an pinball engine i it was not possible it would rain space shuttles.... Smile the last one had a heatshield problem the first one had a o ring failure...... the space shuttle consists out of 8 Math Z80 based computers..... a 9nd computer calculates the results of the 8 math computers wich do the same calculations......
