I think it would be nice to try all these project looking for the performance with MSX Emulation.

TEST 1:
Platform: MSX2+
Software: Unknown Reality
Results:

fMSX: Software Starting with a screen of Compojetania for track loading. Demo doen't start. It seems it has not recognised Moonsound? Strange flickering on video
OpenMSX: Software Starting with a screen of Compojetania for track loading. Demo doen't start. It seems it has not recognised Moonsound? Maybe it would be inserted with command line, but I've to connect (AGAIN) my Galaxy Tab3 to the PC, looking for the Rom of Moonsound (with the right name in the right folder) and retry.
MSX.emu: It works, but with only MsxAudio (same results of OpenMSX in the PC version). No flickering. The extra machine set is easily downloadable from BleuMSX or www.explusalpha.com

TEXT 2 is coming soon... Stay tuned

Um, UR works fine on openMSX. If you only get the track player, you should use an MSX with 256kB memory mapper or more (just like on the real thing).
UR does not support MoonSound, only MB stereo.

I understood.
But the Leitmotiv of the tests is "Let's try to power up, select a media and see what happens"
The result is that without any custom setup MSX.emu simply makes Unkown Reality work.
Sorry for the Lapsus: please read Moonblaster instead of Moonsound.

Bye Bye

I don't know what MSX.emu runs as default machine. openMSX only comes with C-BIOS which doesn't even has disk support. So it can't run UR at all. That means you already changed the default machine to some other... you should have picked one with more RAM! Tongue

So, what are you testing here exactly? What the default machine is capable of? (Then you made a mistake for openMSX as you clearly changed it...)

I'm testing the possibility for an msx fan without tecnical experience as I'm to run his msx software on android. You 've to consider the philosofy of tablets where mouse is substituted by finger for an easier experience. In that contest one thing is to visit a web site and put a file in a folder to see Unknown Reality working like msx.emu lets. A different thing is to look for the right msx model of msx 2+ can run the U.r. disk, find it on the web and not in the website of the app, put it the right folder but using the filenames that openmsx wants etc. I know perfectly that with a turbor emulation openmsx is wonderful with ur, but here i'mthinking about user-friendship not necessary the best product possible.
I'm sure that openmsx would be soon the best user-friendly considering that it's still under development.
Good work: i can't wait for your next release of openmsx android

My point was: your actual finding should have been: "it only starts up C-BIOS, can't run it at all" Tongue

Yes, you need to put the systemroms somewhere (as clearly explained in the manual), but no, the filenames do not need to be "as openMSX wants", because openMSX doesn't care about filenames.

So, all you need to do is put the systemroms of the machine you want to run it with in the right place, select the proper MSX and you go.

As it's illegal to distribute system roms, that's the best we can do. So, I don't see how we can fix this issue and I don't know how MSX.emu did it, without breaking laws.

Uhm, this sounds interesting.
This changes.
I remember that also in BlueMSX website was possible to download extra machine: am I wrong?

In that case maybe all the emulators would have problems with DSK image !!!
I understand now exactly what you says.
Maybe I can start, for example, to review games in .ROM format which make a LEGAL and DEMOCRATIC challenge between emulators.
Do you know if exist any MSX model with BIOS downloadable without legal issues? Maybe one from closed companies?

I'll also try to include a section of the review about CUSTOMIZATION, talking about how much easy is the way to ADD a machin in each emulator.

Thanks again and regards

I don't know exactly about blueMSX, I don't use it (I'm on Linux).

As far as I know, the only legal BIOS is C-BIOS, which was written from scratch.

For openMSX: it comes with more than 100 machines, but you still have to put the system ROMs at the right place. It's not really a matter of adding machines, but a matter of installing the system ROMs.

OK, where can I find the manual of OpenMSX Android?

It's the same as the normal manual. There are some places where Android is mentioned when it is specific. A good example is indeed the systemroms location, see http://openmsx.sourceforge.net/manual/setup.html#romlocation

I always found the manual very complete. but also very BIG.
It would be fantastic to make an easier and less complete version (something like "first steps") and a "professional" or "extended" version.
Maybe for all people not interested in -diskmanipulator or in -V9990 options the FIRST STEP VERSION would be more user fiendly, expecially thinking about Android user Smile
