Couple a days ago I bought a Yamaha CX5M II/128, the music computer. It came with SFG-05 FM synth module, like it should.
There is so much info on the net that I don't know what to try next. There is that CALL MUSIC of course. Then I downloaded the YRM-502 FM Voicing Program II (CALL FMV). Works, but are there instructions anywhere? I can change parameters and it changes the sounds, but it's somewhat random without manual...
What other softs are good? There is MidiSlav of course, but I haven't got a disk interface yet. DMS-II should work on this?
Are any of those roms copy-protected?
And, I found this: http://www.cx5m.net/dexed/
Didn't try it yet, though.
I found a lot of programmers info also, but it seems the synth unit cannot be utilised in BASIC? Or C? I can Z80 asm, but it's not very convenient for quick and dirty tests and such.
There are also instructions to convert the machine to MSX2, on the familiar http://msx.hansotten.com but also: http://www.cx5m.net/cx5m-ii128-msx2-conversion
I see only differences are VRAM size and BIOS (& subBIOS). Do typical (not BASIC) games even care about the BIOS?
And speaking of MSX2, in Japan they didn't ever sell CX5M II, but CX7M which already is MSX2? How come there is no info at all about CX7M in the msx.org wiki?
