The book is finished but is currently being re-read for English errors. It counts over 800 pages. I'm not sure how it will be published. I'm going to give the book away for free, but even that means the book will cost over 50 Euro with POD publishing. So I'm not sure how I'm going to tackle this.

Okay, thanks for the information. Maybe it's an idea to let people pre-order the book so you will know how many initial copies you need so you can place them as one order to a publisher to save costs?

Maybe Amazon Self Publishing is an option?

More info on CreateSpace, they can print in color and there are no setup fees. Only drawback maybe that it is paperback only. So no hardcovers...

I've published books before on Createspace. It's pretty damn expensive for large books. People are willing to pay 15 euro for 100 pages, but not 60 or 70 euro for 800 pages.

Okey, than the €50 you mentioned before does not sound too bad. I didn’t think it was expensive before, btw. I even think €60 or €70 would be fine considering what we (the buyers) would get. Advantage to you is (in my opinion), no financial investment and no risks (not sure if this is an advantage over going with POD), no hassle regarding payments, shipping, etc. There is also benefit for the buyers: you could get it to market quickly, you could include an ebook copy, it would stay available.

So what in specific are you referring to when you say: “So I'm not sure how I'm going to tackle this.”? Maybe MRC could create a poll on whether €70 for (what I believe is a masterpiece and a must have) is too much and see what people think?

The problem I have with the 70 euro is that people will think I'm gonna get rich, while in reality I'm giving the book away for free. :-) I haven't got a clue on how many people are interested in the book. I think you need at least 1000 people to get it printed by a real publisher to get a better price. I still have some time to think about this.

Yes you do have some time. And it does not matter what people think, they'll think it either way. And for what it's worth, I would say, sell them for €75 or €72 and make some money, I don't mind. From what I've seen there has gone a lot of work in this. And if you don't want the money for yourself you can always donate to a good cause, or MRC Wink (not affiliated)...

What helps by getting it on Amazon is that you can reach so many more people, which seems what is most important to you (reading between the lines a bit here).

Yeah, It is hard to say how many people are interested in this book. But it's not going to be 1000 people Smile You can consider releasing it as pdf so people who want a paper version can print it them selfs. And I agree with sdsnatcher73. I wouldn't mind if you'd asked some money for all the work you've put in. As comparison, I was involved in this kickstart and as you can see there mayority of the backers pays well under 60 euros and the book ins't 800 pages.

@wimpie3 I really admire your work.
As I worked long time as a graphic designer one of our main task was publishing books in a small edition.
Most of the time the customer didn't really made business with his book. In fact they pay for printing and didn't sell any.
Some have a legacy in their garage for the next generation to dispose.
You have do promotion for the book, take care for the print, the distribution. For sure you have informed about a minimum number of copies. Are you going for 100, 1000, 10.000?
I don't want to be the one who ruined your dreams. And I bet a lot people from this community will support you or even buy a book. Now or in half a year.
100 will be risky at all.
I like to buy books, I like hardcover, I really like prints. I would pay 100.-€ for your book.
If I got the money now.
But who else would? And when?
The risk will be you're going broke with a 1k books in your garage. Even no place for a car, well, you have to sell the car for printing cost.
How about a print on demand service? Photobooks?
Do a shrink down paper edition with a download code for more information or pdf version.
Man, I remember why I stopped this job, but if you need closer information, you're welcome to contact me.
