MSX-WRITE doesn't work on BlueMSX emulator

Hi Folks,

Last Sunday, I'd tried to run MSX-WRITE rom on BlueMSX, but it didn't run well on the emulator.
Worsely, I changed MSX machine options to Japanese MSX1, MSX2, MSX2+, Turbo-R and PAL MSX2, however, when I inserted the rom file on the cartridge slot (BlueMSX v2.8.2), the machines rebooted repeatedly or hanged. Eek!

I am very curious if this problem is caused by rom file itself or BlueMSX emulator.

BTW, MSX-WRITE II works well on the emulators.

Actually, I have two Sanyo PHC-77 machines and MSX-WRITE is built in the machines. I want to verify if the built-in MSX-WRITE has any difference with the stand-alone MSX-WRITE.

Otherwise, anyone who has working MSX-WRITE rom files?

Thanks. Smile

MSX-Write uses a special mapper, even more special than MSX-Write II. The cartridges contain both ROM, SRAM and a kanji font ROM.
I don't know if they are supported properly by blueMSX. However, I've added support for them in openMSX in November last year. You could try the latest openMSX development build if you like.

I'm very interested to learn more about the PHC-77, so we can create a hardware configuration file of this machine for openMSX!

Thank you for the reply, Manuel :-)

As you said, MSX-WRITE romfiles consist of three files (Program ROM, Kanji-Rom, and another Rom file; I don't know what the third rom file is, but this rom file has the most size among three files).
FYI, I did download MSX-WRITE at here (http://oldgamebox.tistory.com/5053).

I don't know how to mount these rom files into cartdige slot at a time on the BlueMSX or OpenMSX.
Can you explain to me how to do it on the OpenMSX? I'd try along to your instruction.

Personally,
I have more than a hundred MSX machines at my home. My two PHC-77 machines work very well including built-in printer and floppy drive. AFAIK, PHC-77 provides a system bundle disk, but unfortunately I don't have one.

BlueMSX gives the configuration files, but if you need real hardware information, I will inspect the hardware and extract the rom files on my machines.

Thank you so much.

For openMSX, put the ROM files in the share/systemroms folder and start openMSX with the "ASCII_Japanese_MSX-Write" extension. That will insert everything how it should.

Yes, I'd rather have direct dumps from the hardware to be sure they are clean. Also, I'd like you to run tools like MSXMEM2.BAS etc. See the reverse engineering kit with instructions here: https://www.msx.org/forum/msx-talk/emulation/dumpingreverse-...
