AKID.COM works for MSX 1, but has a low limit on the text file size. It's quite fast but it's also an editor, so not only a viewer.

Long way from optimal or great, but maybe something like this could solve your problem?

10 CLEAR 1000
20 OPEN "MYFILE.TXT" FOR INPUT AS #1
30 CLS:FOR I=0 TO 20
40 LINE INPUT #1,A$
50 PRINT A$
60 IF NOT EOF(1) THEN NEXT I
70 A$=INPUT$(1)
80 IF NOT EOF(1) THEN 30

Isn't it cleaner to CLOSE #1, or it is automatic when the program ends?

Yes, it is cleaner, but has no practical value when you are doing only reading. The file will not be closed when the program terminates, but next time you use RUN, CLEAR, NEW, load/save something or edit the source. Because it is opened for reading only closing of the file does not access disk. Only the file handle is removed from memory.

Here is a temporary link to download PED.COM that is a program developed by 張東一 (mame unreadable for me) released in a Japanese book called "MSX-DOS Super Handbook".
