With the new Nintendo console released I have something to admit: it is actually the first game console I might buy. I'm still undecided, as so far I've managed to fulfill my gaming needs with the MSX and PC, but... somehow the Wii is getting to me. Is it because it has some kind of MSX feel to it?

With this, I'm not only talking about the 'Virtual Console' and the MSX games in it, but also about the game itself. Its specs aren't on par with the Xbox360 or PS3, but - like MSX - the console seems to say "so what?! it's the gameplay that counts!". And then there's the controller...

Guess what I am saying is... what are your thoughts on the Wii?

For gaming, I feel that PS/PS2/PS3 is a true successor of MSX, because it's what Japanese public prefer over other consoles and it's where most japanese-style games take place. And because Kojima is in love with PS line of devices just as he was in love with MSX many years ago.

But after thinking again, I have to admit I feel this "MSX gaming spirit" thing nowadays is split between a number of older and new japanese consoles, and Wii is one of them.

Yeah... the Virtual Console is one of the buy-trigger thingies that will pull my wallet...

The console is cheap, it has virtual console and you can boot copied games with a bootprogram on the sd-card

For gaming, I feel that PS/PS2/PS3 is a true successor of MSX.I've heared this before, but I have to disagree. I think PS is more related to C64 because of its huge games catalogue. PS has grown into a worldwide mainstream brand (which it wasn't at the start!). Apart from better graphics, CPU power and I/O, what's the difference between PS2 en PS3? But then again, what's the difference between MSX and MSX2 in that respect? Perhaps we should not compare old school homecomputers with consoles anyway. MSX is more about creating things yourself than about gaming.

Latok: the 'very-decent-utterly-controlled-by-nintendo-games' and the lack of MGS4 are quite some issues to me indeed... but still... I like the darn thing. Isn't that odd? Smile

The Wii is awesome and there's even support in the VC engine for MSX. Maybe Nintendo and woomb could do a deal to make Woomb's games available for European Wii-ers...

The fact that VC MSX games are (not yet) available to PAL users is on of the main reasons I haven't yet bought a Wii yet.

...also, I want to get my hands on the 1chipMSX first before I buy more ^_^ things Wink
