I guess the enforced TLS would make Gemini impractical to also support?

It is not impratical as UNAPI TCP/IP specification has support for TLS, and as an example, the WiFi internet connection for SM-X that I've made allow 1 TLS connection... Also, Konamiman has made an UNAPI that works with a tunnel on a Raspberry or other machine, not sure about the details, but know that this is another possibility for TLS on MSX.

But it might not be really useful as those are the only two possibilities and all other adapters currently on the market do not support TLS connections. And it is not feasible to implement TLS on software on the z80 or R800, you surely need either a network adapter that has TLS acceleration (i.e.: SM-X WiFi) built in or use a tunnel...
