Actually I think it's better to post here as it's easier to see for everyone.

Secondly, perhaps it's time to temporary lock the front page of the wiki? (definitely not permanently).

How about only giving (new) users wiki editing rights on request (be it via the forums, or dm)?

(Although you can revert changes, and ban afterwards, the editing history is already polluted at that point..)
