Hey people,

I don't know if there's a standalone app for it, but I was wondering about something yesterday.
Someone sent me the songs of naruto, which are opx extension files.
It took me a while to install and find the plug-ins for both winamp and KBmplay,
and then I wondered if it wouldn't be an idea to have a player for pc that just plays those
files. I mean, apart from going through the hassle of having to install yet another player
for yet another exotic format of yet another obsolete platform, couldn't it be simpler
to have bluemsx (or fmsx or openmsx) recognize those file extensions and launch some
player by drag and dropping opx or mbm or KSS files on them ?

Try ViewMSX 0.05 for pictures... Can't help you with music tho...

It shoudl be possible to make something like this, using openMSX in the background. The command interface makes everything possible you need to do this. But still: someone should do it then Smile

would be convenient so you don't have to transfer separate files, put them on diskimages, load a tracker etc etc etc.
At least you'd have a decent thing with playlists, and not having to open zillions of programs for every different fileformat.

It's all possible to do. But it may be quite a lot of work. It might be easier to compile a new program using the sources of an emulator like openMSX.

Building a music player GUI into openMSX is not the right approach, in my opinion. I prefer what Manuel suggested: use openMSX (either the full executable or something smaller built from the openMSX sources) for the synthesis, but put the GUI in a separate program.

I think the most convenient approach would be to write a plug-in for an existing media player. That way, you can have a mixed playlist with MP3, MBM, KSS etc files. Also, you get the GUI part for free.

well, as for the media player: I got that covered now in winamp... and kbmplay, both are capable now of playing moonblaster tracks,
and opl songs . My suggestion was that emulators would recognize the file types, so they could be played separately without having to
run the whole shabam in order to get 1 tune played ( it's provided to be a bit if a hassle every time)

It would be quite a lot of work to add this feature. Pretty much writing a new winamp from scratch. mth is right, it would be much better to write a plugin to an existing media player. Writing a new media player (which this feature essentially would be) and embed it into an emu doesn't really make sense.

well, in that case: the plug-ins already exist (and working within winamp)
