DO you need a graphic card for msx?
Features are the smallest problem. This is what you're facing:
- acceptance (some wish for the MSX to stay retro, others state that MSX2 is the real MSX)
- content (look at the staggering amount of pure-2+, pure-tR and pure-G9k games)
@wolf:I know, i know, just kidding.... i never like a msx with some gfx card. It's like a frankestein monster...
Looks great
I like it, but our beloved GFX9000 can do the same things. So what's the extra value of this?
who needs 24bit monochrome video?
@wolf_: MSX needs to stay retro and what would be more retro than a physically huge graphic card that can produce only green colors
Graphics cards are nice, but MSX already has good video hardware... however we are lacking an ethernet board (available to get I mean)... <suggestion...>
Actually, I don't think MSX has ideal videochips at all; TMS lacks a lot of gaming essentials, VDP is quite slow. Then again, ppl seem to want to stick to them.

Compare the VDP with the gfx hardware of his competitors: Spectrum, C64, Amstrad CPC, NES (however, NES hardware scroll rules)... I think the VDP is actually quite good.
The C64 has a far better videochip for demos and games, the only thing you could argue is that the palette is fixed and it may not be everyone's taste. Then again, the TMS palette is far too candy as well.
2 C64 demos here: show me the MSX versions if you can..
Not in64x48 pixels, not pure screen 3, not as a 4motion, not as a Nyyrikki video stream, but just realtime. Keep in mind that the C64 has a CPU of about 0.8Mhz.

The problem is of course the whole idea of having separate VRAM, to get new things there requires time, while the VRAM section of the C64 is simply a section of its main 64KB RAM.
