I've received my SD/MMC drive last Friday, and I like it very much. Now my diskless MSX2 has a SD drive for 2 cards and an SCC chip in the same slot. I used the cheapest option - I've sent my SCC cartridge to sinfox with Registered Airmail (this had tracking, costs 2$ and took ~10 days from Israel to South Korea), and he sent me my modified cartridge back in just 2 or 3 days. From Korea to me it arrived in 2.5 weeks (too bad - the cheapest delivery option I chose had no tracking), but anyway it arrived, and now I am happy - my MSX is not diskless anymore !
I will post pics sometimes later.
I have plans to distribute my product(MMC Ver.2) to Europe or other regions.
I used KONAMI SCC ROM cartridges to make MMC.
I have interest in your opinion to find new SCC chips and cartridge-housings.
If you have some projects about that, give me information definitely by E-mail.
Well how can we reach you and what are the costs of the pcb ?
For cartridge housings you could try http://matranet.net/
roadfighter, sinfox published his e-mail in this thread: amanohyo (at) hotmail (dot) com
sinfox, updating your MRC profile with e-mail address may help people to find you !
This piece of HW is sweet!
Last night I was busy testing our MSXdev entry om real MSX1 hardware.
I first used a turboR to flash the game on the SCC flash and I switched over to the MSX1.
But then I found out that the first image (system disk) is directly accesable on windows.
I placed the DOS1 files + OPF.EXE and the rom of the game to test on the SDcard. An plugged
the MMC interface and SCC flash in my MSX1 (NMS 8020). It worked perfectly!!!
I always thought I needed to place some extra memory. But that isn't
the case.
To bad the user documentation isn't very clear about all features. With a good usermanual
and some addaption to the current software (A lot of MSX'es do NOT have a numpad!!!!)
Directories under DOS1 would be nice too.
Huey,
Agree with you 100% - the project lacks a good user manual with a number of use cases.
As for a numpad, sharksym promised to add support for numpad-less machines.
Dirs on DOS1:
- I tried DIRS-SYS project (it works on 720K floppies, but I have no time to check if I can hack it to bigger partitions)
- You can consider using numpad/DISKEXE.COM switching between images instead of subdirs. The problem is that DISKEXE.COM switcher doesn't work under DOS1 - let's hope sharksym will address this issue too.
I opened other topic to share my experiences with the drive - you are welcome to join the discussion.
