Maybe it's a noobish question... sorry.

I've noticed in the emulators that some MSX 2 games have a "vertical scanlines" effect? Due to the screen 7 mode?
If the PC vertical resolution is less than 480, for instance 640x400 this "effect" dissapears but the image gets blurried.

Not only MSX2 games. If your emulator uses a vertical resolution of 480 (and not 240), you have spare lines. Some emulators use those to create a scanline effect, it's a darker version of the combination of the surrounding scanlines.

In openMSX, open up the console (F10) and type

set scanline 0

Voila, scanlines be gone.

Hi manuel Smile

I think I've not explained it correctly.
I mean vertical scanlines not standard scanlines, see this taken image from blueMSX (in openMSX looks the same):

This is only noticeable at the blue area, not in the red area neither the text.

The question is why this happens?

The question is why this happens?Eh, it's part of the game. That blue area actually is an area of alternating black and blue vertical lines Cool I just checked it on a real MSX

Notice that SMX SCREEN 7 has only 16 colours. Colour mix is a nice effect to "simulate" a wider pallete
