I downloaded the latest mess emulator.I put the correct bios files for msx1 and msx2 and msx2+ machines and booted.
First thing i noticed is that speed is a little slow.I have an amd64 3200+ with 1 giga ram and geforce 5700.
I noticed that msx1 games such as nemesis run almost at 100% speed. If the same games are played under msx2 emulation the speed drops much.

Now i know the machine is capable of emulating the system correctly because if i speed up emulation speed (by toggling the correct slider) i can play it faster at 200% or more of normal speed although the music effects and sounds are at higher frequency!

What can i do to fix it?By the way is there anyone here working on the mess sources so that we could have a better emulation of msx systems?
Next thing i have to mention about this emulator is that i can't use dsk files. If i try to use one then mess crashes and does not work.

Is there a specific reason why you want to use mess?
The only reason I can think of is that you're not running Windows(tm) but an other OS and as such you could try out openMSX (or fMSX if you only want to play games)

maybe on msx2 is emulating a 50hz vertical refresh version. but in msx1 it emulates 60hz

I prefer openmsx, bluemsx or rumsx (rumsx is the only one for me that can run the new gradius 2 patch with smooth scroll correctly),but what i like about mess is the amount of machines it can emulate like mame.I think that since it is developed in c someone could help and make it faster.
Flyguile i tested it and it is not about pal/ntsc issue. It seems that msx1 emulation is faster than msx2.

The Gradius 2 patch should also work fine on openMSX... (and soon in a new blueMSX) what's the problem?

No problem manuel. It just seems that mess emulation is strange.Msx1 emulated machine runs software fine at 100% speed. The same software if run on msx2 emulated machine it seems to crawl a little under mess. The other thing is that while it is slow if i use the sliders in menus to speed up emulation machine seems to be able to run it up to 10x faster although the sound is at higher frequency (like jerk-fast mode).

I think that it would be good to contact some programmers of mess and help them to fix msx/msx2 emulator.Mess is a good project and would benefit from better msx emulation.
