Isn't IPS the standard for patching rom images?

I can't believe I didn't found anything about IPS yesterday. Thanks for the suggestion and also for the offer to help.

Anyway, here are the patches, including the print using fixes:
nlmsx: www.xs4all.nl/~phoeven/msx/msxtr.ips
openmsx: www.xs4all.nl/~phoeven/msx/fs-a1gt_firmware.ips

For ips tools look here: www.zophar.net/utilities/patchutil.html

I also noticed that kanji mode has its own keyboard handler, so I guess I have to fix that too.

I can't find any info there on the IPS format, if that's what you're referring to.

A small update again. This time the keyboard layout of the kanji mode is changed.

nlmsx:
www.xs4all.nl/~phoeven/msx/msxtr.ips
www.xs4all.nl/~phoeven/msx/msxkanji.ips
openMSX:
www.xs4all.nl/~phoeven/msx/fs-a1gt_firmware.ips

However, no font changes, no dead, graph and code keys because:
- I'm to lazy to disassemble the entire kanji rom
- There is no documentation about the kanji rom (some sort of red book for the turbo R would be great)
- A kanji font without the yen sign is actually pretty silly

But at least you can now type _ank the exit the kanji mode.

There is a workaround to use the normal font in the bios in kanji mode:
In openmsx delete or comment out the <device id="Kanji ROM"> stuff.
In nlmsx delete or rename KANJI.ROM

Since rumsx seems back alive I tested the nlmsx patch on rumsx.
It works fine as far as I can tell ;-)
