Well, that was the surprise: Nintendo's "Duck Hunt", a famous shotting game compatible with Gunstick and Sega Light Phaser!. So be ready to use your MSX1 and your guns with this game!. We will release it in a few days, so stay tuned!. We showed an early demo in MadriSX, using a 2 player mode with 2 gunstick connected, but the final release we're finishing will have the 1P mode too. Smile

In the fair, we showed all our projects... "The Final Lap" will be an original racing game based on "Bad Lands" or "Super Sprint", and we showed a demo playing a digital prerendered video mixing screen 3 and sprites with a great compression rate. (7Kb=25 frames!). Other project was "Dr. Mario": we played a couple of non-playable demos, showing the graphics of the game. Wink

Also we create a flyer showing some screenshots of some other projects: "Super Puzzle Fighter 2X", "Dynamite Düx", "Ball-On!" (original game), "Little Knight's Story" (original game), etc...

That's all, dudes. More to come. I hope we can release "Duck Hunt" asap, prepare your Gun Sticks! Wink

Duckhunt, sounds really nice Tongue
too bad those MSX ascii guns are hard to get.

Is it easy to make a NES-zapper to MSX converter? So you can use the zapper on MSX.

There is one big problem... all the "guns" for MSX, each one has a different implementation, so the gun that works for one game, does not work for another, there's no standard "protocol".

That's one of the reasons (I suppose) no emulator even emulates the light gun on MSX.

Oh, and to convert NES pistol to MSX should be the same as converting NES joysticks to MSX... not that easy, since it's not an Atari compatible joystick. It's easier to adapt Master System or Mega Drive's joystick.

I don't know if it's easy, but it's certainly possible. All you really need is the casing and the lens. Well, maybe the photo-sensitive cell would do, but if not it can be easily replaced.

As I understand it, all it needs to do is short trigger 2 whenever it detects a burst of light. I guess this should be possible using simple cmos chips. I think this is how the ASCII gun worked, but I'm not really sure. Maybe someone would be willing to open up their ASCII gun to see what's inside Wink It would help, I guess...

Why bother using the electronics? There's nothing spectacular in it anyways, just make a new -small- print that does whatever it is the ASCII gun does. I don't know about the ASCII gun, but in the NES gun the plastic case is probably ten times more expensive than the electronics are. Same goes for joysticks. All you really need is the plastic casing with the corresponding lens. It has got the focal point right where it should be, so the rest really **shouldn't** be too hard.

As far as I know, the game works with "Gunstick" (MHT Ingenieros) and "Sega Light Phaser" (Sega Master System).

Yes, there is an standard protocol: just 2 signals, one for SHOT (that corresponds to trigger 1) and other for DATA, that is 1 if a white target is pointed.

DUCK HUNT itself is compatible with Gun Stick (by MHT Ingenieros, only sold in Spain, but you can use the Commodore, Amstrad or MSX version and easily convert the Sinclair Spectrum version), Sega Light Phaser for Sega Master System (without any modification) and ASCII Terminator Gun (anyone has got details about this one?).

Converting a NES light gun should be as easy as changing the connector, but I will try to test it if I can get such a gun.

Kind regards,

Ed Robsy

would be nice, because most of the guns are hard to get nowadays.
I think the NES Zapper is the easiest to get second hand.

guys guys, just buy a family GUN, or sega GUN, and re-wired.......the VDP interface is too simply.

how work?

the light sensor generate a "1" state when it detect light....
when the VDP receive that state, just record the X and Y position of the screen sweeping at this moment... and that are the X and Y position where the gun are pointing. Why?. Because the screen of the TV SET not got light all the time in all screen, just got light where the sweeping are running and only in that pixels..... but the human eye see all the complete image because the human eye maintains registered the light during 10/1 seconds and the TV set go faster like 60/1 or 50/1 seconds.

when the gun are pointing out of the screen ....
1. concentrated light that can't go by the lens then no event triggering
2. the light go, but a large period then the VDP recognized it.

Actually, turns out Hans Otten already has the schematic of the ASCII gun on his pages. If anyone who knows a bit about electronics wants to help out, please look at:

members.chello.nl/h.otten/indexhw.htm

It would be nice if we can somehow organize an effort to maybe produce a few of these guns. An alternative to the NES guns might be the newer DreamCast guns. Since the DC failed, prices have plummeted. I don't know about here in NL, but in the US you can buy a brand new lightgun for around US$ 15,-. IMHO that kinda beats buying a second hand NES gun for the same or probably more...

is more easy re-wired a sega or family gun

the wired just got:

+V
ground
Light signal
trigger button
