In this forum thread we found out there is still a chance that the NOP game Micro Mirror Men can be finished in the future. With a bit of luck, a musician and some level editors... we could make this happen! (Of course with the permission/supervision of the original NOP members). You can download a promo of the game right here. Let us know what you think of it, and maybe a new MSX software team can get the job done!

Hi

Great demo! I would love to see and play the full game!
Why not make it a opensource project as intro into advanced game programming.

Kind of a expansion of the current scroll demo idea (project)

Status update:

I am converting the orginal compass sources to ascii, I will be using SJasm to compile the sources:

Creator.asm (level editor) pending...
Mbplay.asm (fmpac/msx-audio player) pending...
Mbwmplay.asm (moonblaster player) pending...
mmm.asm (Level player) done!
Script.asm (Main routine) done!

At this moment I can't get the level player to work on openMSX. I have re-enstated my NMS8280, will try it there soon.

---sigh---- I was hoping that this project would be finished one day. SjaaQ, if you are reading this... maybe it would be a good idea to at least publish the source code, or hand it over to someone who would like to finish it? :/

Does anyone know NOP still exists? Or maybe some members still busy with msx?

Well, the 'SjaaQ' who responded to this thread is an original NOP member (yay!). But it seems he lost track of the MRC a while ago...

As people might know we took up the code again at Nijmegen 2009. Latest developments:

* mmm.com (script loader code) is compilable and runs
* mmmdemo.prg (demo/cutscene code) is compilable and runs
* mmm.prg (main game) is compilable and runs
* creator.com (level designer) is compilable and runs

The graphics (i.e. the orginals) need to be looked at and maybe optimized to suit the new programs availabled (we used to use Amiga's for graphic designing in 1996). I think our original graphics designer will stil be available to edit them. The music for the demo was taken from my own library of stuff and needs some serious work I guess.

Currently there are 3 worlds designed (graphics wise):
* Cellar (Mice, spiders, spooky theme)
* Cheese (More fun like theme).
* Ice (Snowmans, pinguins, snow).

The idea is releasing everything public domain and make it into a community game as well. Levels and music will be created by the community and compiled to a complete game by NOP. For this purpose the creator will be released when we think we are ready to receive custom levels. I was also thinking in having a option in the game that will allow custom levels to be played after the game is finished (like Kings Valley 2).

If you want your music in the game make sure you create a MBM and MBW version of the same song. This way the moonblaster, MSX-Music and FM-Pac will all be supported. Make sure the song will not be too boring because it will be looping (so a 1 min boring looping song will be really annoying).

I will keep you posted on any progress.
