Elitism = when coders decide to limit new games to people who will use them only on real MSX hardware.

They should have done that in a private club, without any promo or comments on Internet, not even YouTube videos.

Contrary to elitism = when coders accept the 2011 reality (still more people using emulators, exclusively or as first choice) and adapt the availability of their games to this reality.

It does not mean that all new MSX games must be available for free, there are digital solutions for digital payments of digital versions of the concerned games.

Clear point there. And 'only' on real hardware seems insane. Sure it's nice if it runs on the real hardware; I mean that's the real proof, but only...

Every community has trolls, annoyboys and rulebulls. I'm on several other forums, and it's the same old story there too. Some people (or their sockpuppets) are just around to trololo. Best is to ignore them.

Every coder has the right to state how his software can be used. If someone chooses for hardware-only, then that's a choice, not elitism. As I've stated in the newspost about it: we're people, not emotionless machines which you can dictate how the world works.

And as for accepting emulators anno 2011: "We, the management of the bank, think it's normal and not elite that people bring their money to the bank! If you keep your money for yourself rather than bringing it to the bank, you are elite, and outdated!"

I do not understand. Question Isn't that something for the coders to decide?

The way I see it is simple. There is only a handful of people left that are actively developing software and hardware for MSX. Thanks to their efforts, we frequently see new releases for an old 8bit platform that we all love. Their efforts keep MSX alive and interesting. The least we can do as a community, apart from buying their products, is respect the developers. And respect their wishes on how their creations should be used. Even if we don't agree with the developers choices or wishes.

If a developer decides to code something for MSX2 only, you can cry all you want - it won't run on an MSX1. If a game is released on cartridge and you have a DE1 (as opposed to a REAL One chip MSX) or an emulator without a game reader, then you can cry all you want - it won't work on a DE1/emulator. If a developer wants to make all the characters in his game pink and purple, you can cry all you want - the colors won't change. It is the right of a developer to apply limitations to the software he releases.

Mars2000you - thanks to your sheer arrogance a great and active MSX group quit. Had you kept your "very special cheat" to yourself - so that you yourself could play your "legal backup" of the game in your precious emulator - none of this would have happened. I checked to see if you had any regret or even remorse, but contrary - you seem to be proud of it. You even returned to msx.org especially for this, after 5 years of silence. I don't understand how you can fuck active MSX developers from behind like this, and run the MSXdev competition in the same time. You should be ashamed of yourself, but I'm afraid you're too ignorant to realize this.

Righto! But.. pink and purple characters in a game.. that's where I draw the line.. Cool

And hey.. hap made a screen mirror feature in meisei, to play Universe: Unknown in the wrong direction. A hue shift function (which only reacts to pink and purple) in an emulator could get rid of pink and purple characters!

I'm seeing a rupture.
mars2000you has a MSX website right?
mars, if you want to use www.msx2.org domain (which is MINE), and create a structure with news/forum and etc... It's yours. I'll keep paying for it as long as you wish.
Maybe we could even host a MSXDEV competition that will include MSX2. If you do that, I'm also offering a MSX Hotbit as a prize.

muffie : that's very kind from you but past experiences (Fixato forums, Passion MSX forums) have indicated that there's no real place for another English MSX forum.
Only non-English forums have a real chance : for example, in French (MSX Village) or in Spanish (Karoshi Boards + Konamito.com). I know there's no great Brazilian MSX forum, but probably because more things happen in the MSXBR-L mailing list.

Besides, I have so many projects for my own site (MSX blue) on my own domain (where other MSX sites are also hosted). Life is always making choices !Smile
