Try to reproduce in openMSX? (Would be a nice test case for MFR SCC+ SD support...)

It may sounds weird, but I don't have 3,5'' floppies anymore. However, I do have a Sunrise CF IDE, so I tried the new SymbOS with him and it went smoothly, fully working.

That's good
.. But still it's a bit weird that your config is not working as I have tested it on exactly the same configuration..
I think you partitionized your micro SD card with the nextor fdisk version that had a bug. ?
If you have a spare empty microSD card your could try to config it with the correct fdisk version using a normal 0PC.

Yup, it looks like it has to be something FAT related. I used the VSFT tool to examine existing volumes, but it looks like they are correct, anyway, I think repartitioning is worth enough. Let me give a try.

Ok, so I did various test:

  • Repartitioned my drive with Nextor 2.0.3 and FAT16 drives. Run SymbOS, and no error code 06, but instead I get "File path not found". Desktop icons not working. I'm able to use Run... and select apps and they run nicely. If I open Control Panel and System I see that the System Path is not correct (A:\ instead of A:\SYMBOS). But whatever I try to change that, SymbOS won't do it. Really weird.
  • Repartitioned again, but this time SYMBOS was installed in a FAT12 drive. This one went flawessly and worked perfectly

My guess is that there is something wrong between Nextor's FAT16 and SymbOS handling. For the time being I'm going to let my system drive to be FAT12.

By the way, Windows is only able to see Nextor's primary partition. Is there a way to mount the other partitions?

About the first point In your list:

I have a Turbo-GT (Same configuration) Using Nextor Kernel 2.0.3 with Nextor.sys version 2.0 and command2.com version 2.44. My first partition is a FAT16. Strange thing is that I have non of this problems.
That you could boot Symbos and run the control panel that means you can browse the drive. That means also that the driver was successfully loaded. After you changed the systempath did you saved the configuration ? (in the control panel main window or in the start menu) After saving the configuration was there a symbos.ini created in the root of A: (so A:\SYMBOS.INI ?) The symbos.ini is the only file that needs to be directly in the ROOT of the file system. It could be that symbos.ini was saved somewhere else ? (If so, place it directly in the root of you start partition)

About the other question: Yes you could add other partitions as well. In the Control panel go to Mass Storage Devices and add the other partitions. Be aware that you save this also. (And check the date and time of the symbos.ini as there could be something wrong with your configuration.)

Did you do an upgrade of symbos 2.x or 1.x ? Or was it a fresh installation ? Could it be that there was an old symbos.ini on your drive ?

I'm looking forward to see if other people having the same problems with the same configuration as I cannot reproduce it.

Cool, SymbOS works fine on openMSX with MegaSD emulation (used in combination with Video9000 and turboR).

Is the keyboard matrix of the turboR properly supported? I seem to get the wrong characters when typing (like for the ":").

Cool that It works in OpenMSX with GFX9000 support !! that is cool .. I shame myself I never tried open MSX.. I have to do this as I know this must be a amazing emulator.

About the keys.. I have to find out.. you could change your keyboard layout, but when I save my change it appears to show only when I press it with the mouse (on the keyboard setup screen) but somehow not when using the keys.

Other remark on this: SymbOS supports only the first 4 primary partitions. Keep in mind that the partitions on a normal Sunrise IDE device (without Nextor) are switched around. Other cool thing is that symbOS supports FAT32. (if you have a big collection of MP3 files it could be very handy)

About Nextor: If you have Nextor on your Sunrise IDE device, then the sunrise is not autodetected by the Symbos installation. However you could use it. After the installation go to your symbos path and start Symsetup again. This time you can choose reconfiguration disk settings. This is the Advanced mode where you can add storage devices manually.
Konamiman sends some information how to detect the sunrise with nextor. This is on the request list now. Be aware that this is only for the sunrise not for the megaflash SD+. This one is autodetected by the Symbos installation Setup.

I can replace the key with an other character using the keyboard layout in the keyboard-configuration, This works on a real machine (msx2) on blueMSX (Turbo-r & MSX) without any problems. On a real GT it is not working.. Could you try it with OpenMSX if it is possible ? If not OpenMSX proofs itself again Wink
