Btw, there is a bug in SymShell: If you start a COM file with given file extension + any parameters...
Example:

NSLOOKUP.COM www.msx.org

...SymShell will restart itself until memory is full, as it doesn't recognize, that it can execute it directly. This doesn't happen if you don't add the file extension:

NSLOOKUP www.msx.org

Not sure, if this could be the problem, but I should mention it.

Yesterday EdoZ and me recorded a network session in SymbOS MSX, and a nice little video clip has been made out of it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3arrALdYcU

It's quite cool to see both Z80 machines connected to each other over the internet at the same time and how they synchronize.
Hope you enjoy it! :)

Yesterday evening, I installed SymbOS 3.0 beta and tried all the network features. Awesome! Only problem is indeed to find another MSX user with whom one can chat or play battleship, haha......

Good to hear that it works! Smile Indeed a special app is planned, which shows "all" online users. You can then ask one of them if he wants to start a game session. This will also require a central server. The current peer-2-peer solution for the messenger and Battleship requires one of the two MSX to run as a server. Usually for this you have to add a NAT-rule with port forwarding on your router at home. With a real central server, which is also forwarding the packets between two (game) client, this won't be necessary anymore.

For a while now, I have followed symbos development with interest but I haven't tried it myself yet (I dont really use my msx often). First of all I want to congratulate you guys with the great progress.

I have some questions:

1. I saw that you can play MP3 files WHILE doing other things in symbos. Would that work on a normal z80 as well or only on Turbo R?
2. Would it be possible to listen to mp3 streams? Could be fun imho Big smile

I don't have a MP3 cartridge yet thats why I ask Big smile

1. Yes! In normal Z80 mode without acceleration playing an 128kbps MP3 takes about 25% CPU time. That means you still have most of the CPU time left for other things Smile
2. In theory yes, as it would be fast enough. Transfering data between the DenYoNet and the MSX is nearly as fast as between an IDE or SD card interface. But it seems to be slower in practice, and there is currently the problem with the W5100 that sometimes receiving data from the remote side stops for some moments.

Hi. I try to install Symbos 2.1 and the install program don't work correctly. My machine is:

- Panasonic A1-FX, 512KB RAM (I've test that it works properly).
- Sunrise IDE interface, whith a CF (work perfectly with Symbos 2).

I copy all files and paths to a partition and execute the install. When it start, show this message:

SYMBOS MSX 2.1 - SETUP
(c)2014 Prodatron/SymbiosiS
========================

Autodetecting mass storage devices..
(FDC detection by Marcos Blanco)

and does not continue. ¿What can I do?

Thanks and regards

A quick question: Is the Sunrise IDE running with Nextor?
