The textformatting in the HLP files is much simpler than that in DOX files.
HLP only uses one single 256char font, which contains multiple charsets for normal/bold/italic(limited)/underlined(limited), which makes it possible to use the multiline textinput control (in read only mode) for displaying the texts.
So it's a little bit different.

A HTML 2 DOX converter should be implemented on Z80/SymbOS side to be able to display HTML pages somewhen in the future.

Why not to render, the underline separately as a line?, or bold as two times overwriten character with transparency set for the second one, or Italic just af deviation of the X margin for each 2 or 3 pattern lines.? If you are doing it for TurboR anyway, don't expect too much overhead time in that.

In case of the help viewer this doesn't work, as it's using the multiline textinput control, which always requires one single font and no additional char rendering stuff, as it's just a text field editor and nothing else.

SymZilla (which is displaying DOX files) uses another feature of SymbOS for displaying "rich text". This does the underline in the way you described, but there is no "on the fly" char-rendering for bold and italic for several reasons:
- slower speed
- several chars wouldn't look optimal
- would require more code in the core part of SymbOS (where memory is very limited unfortunately)

Using the TurboR is always nice regarding the speed, but IMHO it still has to run fine on a normal MSX.

I have some troubles in installing SymbOS and trying the v.3 beta.
At the end of installation the O.S. starts but without wallpaper and it cannot find any application.
So maybe I've choosen something wrong during boot drive selection.
I will install and use it with:
- MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD;
- SD-Card plain size 1GB;
- my NMS-8245 sees SD-Card as B: drive letter;
- SymbOS in installed into B:\SYMBOS;
- when I choose the boot drive, I push on 1 and the "parenthesis" disappear (while the parenthesis of "2" option representing the Philips Floppy Drive, remain); after that I confirm with "S".
Maybe the problem is the latter selection, now I will retry without selecting "1" and leave both selections active (or unselect 2)
But I have a request: could this step become more clear to users? Thankyou in advance.

But please, is it impossible to simplify even more the setup procedure?

Mmmh... both procedures are not successful for my equipment...
1 one) I cannot write to the internal flash drive (ASmile of the MFR;
2 one) I followed the instructions but SymbOS continues telling me "not enough memory".
Going to try with a TurboR.

Strange. It should be working and symbos 2.1 has a very easy setup. Only thing I noticed is that your A drive is a virtual floppy one. I never tested this with that option as here it is the A: drive the SD. I have the same hardware here. I will test it for you when I have some time.
