Update: i suppose the LS-120 support CHS? , see:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuperDisk
(within the technical documentation)

Also within this article, it seems to use CHS (only) adressing mode?:
http://reboot.pro/topic/12436-usbzipls120-booting-with-minim...

I don't know if it doesn't support LBA at all.

Robby.

Ok, I digged out my old CHS routines, hope I can make a working driver for CHS devices Smile

@prodratron
@edoz

That was indeed really really easy, I just stumbled on this link and installed it on my megaflashrom cartridge and launched it from multimente. So I suppose it's possible to create desktop links (with icons) to msx programs ?
Is it possible to use the second slot on this cartridge as the b drive as well ? I haven't been able to select it yet from the "explorer" (sorry forgot the name) yet.
Anyway this looks really awesome, I'm gonna dive into it deeper tomorrow Smile

That would be great!
Maybe this information is useful for you:
http://map.grauw.nl/resources/disk/IDESYS.TXT
In there CHS is also described.

Hi Poke-1,170 !

About SymbOS. I'm glad to hear that the installation was easy Wink as there were a lot of complaints that it was to difficultWink So prodatron invest a lot of work on the installation part.

About your questions.. First, SymbOS is a OS which is not compatible with msxdos or basic programs.
SymbOS does not use the roms inside the MSX but talks directly to the hardware. The reason for that is that SymbOS runs on different platforms. Besides the MSX it runs on the enterprise machine and the Amstrad CPC. That means that programs developed for SymbOS are running on all the platforms. So that means that SymbOS does not handle real MSX programs. However we are working hard to develop more and more applications for the OS.

In theory you could of course make an executor that leaves the OS and start a MSX program. There is a ROM launcher created for SymbOS to execute ROMs. But this one is limited to small MSX roms. I agree that it would be cool to have a MSX launch program for SymbOS but this seems very difficult to create. As after loading SymbOS msxdos is removed and it would be difficult to start it again. The new release of SymbOS will be shown in Nijmegen, including the complete new advanced desktop with more color support for icons and some other nice new features.. Like network support etc.I think around that time a new (beta) release will be published.

About the drives. Yes you can. Go to the control panel and you can add your other partitions (only primary partitions are supported) you have to save your settings. The new release comes also with a good user manual which describes all this kind of actions. Unfortunately this is not finished yet.

Hope it helps. If you have any question.. Just ask here.

I`m sorry for some offtopic, but one question for Prodatron. Can Symbos be ported from msx/cpc to other z80 based machines? Like some ZX-clone or other?

Poke-1,170,

Here a picture how you could do it with the storage. Go to the control panel, storage and choose Slave if you want to use the second slot on the storage adapter. You could use a FAT32 if you like. That is easy when you want to exchange files like MP3 files between your PC and MSX. SymbOS supports hot pluggable for SD cards. You can choose what ever drive letter you want in SymbOS (A till Z) to mount your partition to a drive letter. So if you like your A partition in MSXDOS as C: in SymbOS it could be mapped like this. You always need to save your settings! Be aware that sym-commander does need a restart if you add or remove storage when this program was still open.

And here you can find a picture where i have the icons linked to MSX programs (roms) in SymbOS. Icons will be better in the next release.
