Algorythms, dont feel bad about reporting bugs. Every bug we report is better for us and for Prodatron, as we help him to develop SymbOS
@D-Tail: Yes, I will order a Sunrise IDE now
@Leo: Yeah, it's a HD disc with hidden hole.
@Algorythms: Is it partition 4, too? Currently SymbOS only accesses partition 4.
@Spl/Algorythms: Exactly!
On PC I think the first partition is #4. On MSX it's #0. I put all the files on partition #0 AND on #4 just to be sure. But when you say #4, do you start to count at #0, or #1?
It seems weird to me that Edwin uses only the first partition and it works!
Spl: If that's the case, I have many different MSX's to find bugs with
I count from #1, because in SymbOS #0 means, that the drive is unpartitioned.
So the fourth entry (=the last one) in the master boot record must be filled.
Prodatron - perhaps I'm too late, but you could also consider buying a Sunrise CompactFlash ATA-IDE interface. Works exactly like the IDE interface, yet you can use an ordinary CompactFlash card as if it was a harddisk. No need for an external power-supply, silence, cool-factor... think of it!
I think i have the same problem than Algorythms, i get error code 02, i cant load anything, and i cant browse disk, i think im working in wrong partition, and my #4 partition is fat16. Im going to test with a diferent HDD.
If it's any use to you, I set up the great SymbOS on my E: partition, which should be physically (and logically) mapped to the 5th partition. It's as if there's no problem. One note: all my partitions/drives are accessible upon boot: A to F for harddrive, G and H for floppy disks. Still gotta try the latest alpha though!
@Snout: I choosed a Compact Flash Interface (with 2 CF card slots) and sent the order form right now, I also think, it's the best choice
The other thing I need asap is a memory mapper, so I think I will buy this 4MB expansion from Padial. As I also want to install a Moonsound later in the future, I will need a slot expander, so I wonder if I should buy one at Padial, too, or wait, until Sunrise will produce them again?
I want to concentrate on FDC support this week. I would like to have a look on the IDE problems later again, maybe the Sunrise IDE reaches me during the next two weeks (does someone know, how long it could take?).
When FDC works, it will be possible to configure the IDE partition manually, maybe this will solve the problem for some people. I will start with the Western Digital FD1793.
I have a question regarding MSX-DOS1 and 2. Seems, that a normal MSX2 can't boot DOS2? In BlueMSX I recognized, that it only works, when the Sunrise IDE is present. Do you always need extra hardware to boot DOS2 on a MSX? As DOS2 already chooses the biggest memory mapper (which DOS1 doesn't do, right?), it would be better to boot SymbOS here, or I need to write an own mapper detection.
