Hi, is anyone out there using SymbOS on Megaflashrom? I ask because I'm trying to get it running, but can't complete the setup as my 'Y' key (and a few others) is not working, so I am unable to set the paths. So was wondering if someone who's got it installed (on drive BSmile could share with me an already installed SymbOS folder, with a config file, just so that I could get it running?
I tried editing the .cfg file on a PC, but it doesn’t seem to be a text file, which is why I am asking if someone could maybe give me a copy of theirs

Well... you can make identical setup in openMSX and then use the config file... Please note that the correct answers depend on what slot you use for the MegaflashROM etc.

I have also another idea, but to be honest I have no idea if it works or not, but I guess you could try, if you don't have better ideas... The idea is that you put the answers to keyboard buffer... This has salvaged me few times in a bit similar situations.

In practice: Try downloading this file and give the answers beforehand. You can use HEX representation in case of key you can't type... ie. "Y" can be written as \x59

Here is little cheat sheet:

So the idea is that you type something like:
KEYIN S\x59MSETUP\n...
where the "..." is the keyboard input for the setup program... ie. to answer "Y" to first questions and "N" to 2nd question, you can try: KEYIN S\x59MSETUP\n\x59N

... you may also try to make a text file on PC... ie. TEST.TXT that says:
10 KEY1,"Y"
20 _SYSTEM

... and then on MSX start it with command BASIC TEST.TXT
This will make F1-key work as "Y"

These are great suggestions, really helpful thank you. It will be fun to try.
Of course the real solution is for me to get the keyboard fixed, but I ended spending quite a lot just getting the machine, not to mention the other bits to make it work (CRT, Flashrom, stepdown converter, controllers etc), so might be a few more months before I can either get the keyboard fixed or failing that, get some sort of adaptor for an external keyboard. Having said that, everything I wanted to get working, Konami games and some demos, I have managed to run through MM, this is the first problem that I've had that I couldn't workaround, so kind of frustrating Smile
I do have a MiSTer, and OpenMSX so I might spend some time trying to create a 'B:' drive on one of those and do it that way, but like the idea of using keyboard buffer or 'KEY' command too Smile Thanks again for your help NYYRIKKI, and for sharing some of your knowledge on the subject.

hahaha, NYYRIKKI .. you are always surprising me with solutions Big smile

PolitankZ do you have a Mouse for your MSX? And/Or are your arrow and GRAPH key working? As you really need it in SymbOS.

Hi edoz, no I don’t have a mouse, at least not yet. My graph key works, and the arrow keys apart from the right arrow work. Tbh I don’t intend to use Symbos in any meaningful way, other than to ‘show off’ a gui running on an 8bit machine Smile I would much rather use Sofarun, and will try get my Megaflashrom to boot straight into that I think, when I get round to it.

I made a batch file to run the KEY command suggested by NYYRIKKI above, and it works perfectly! Big smile i still get an error (26) but the installer now completes, think I just set ‘boot’ bit wrong maybe, will mess with later
