First a definition: by c64 4x1 logical pixels i mean the fat pixel "multicolor" mode where 4 pixels are wide as in hires are 8 pixels but because of fat pixel we can onlyhave 4 different colors per block as if there were 4 pixels. So the definition of "4 logical pixels"

i think it is possible to convert c64 "multicolor" fat pixel modes in msx without too much loss of information. If one still keep the FAT PIXEL mode on msx (meaning we have only 4 "logical" pixels per 8 physical pixels) we can have two colors for each 4x1 logical pixel blocks. Because blocks are larger, there are less pixels/color combination per physical 8x1 pixels area so there is less chance to get the color clash problem.
Teoretically c64 can display 4 different colors per 4x8 area while msx only 2. But with a fat pixel resolution there is less chance that more than two/three colors are in a single 4x1 logical pixel line. Maybe the situation that more often is in place is to have three colors per 4x1 logical area, so with a bit of dithering i think c64 fatpixels images can be converted easily.

I agree that it isn't too difficult to transfer over. I was able to convert almost the entire image directly, I only had to go in and hand edit areas that had a lot going on.

I would like to see the C64 pic without black lines.
I do not mean the fat black frames on the sides
I mean generaly the black lines
they are like a third color, making bleed

on the ZX black is used more often because the ZX colorbyte is broken
for example it is impossible to have dark red and bright red in one tile
then is used black
but on the MSX the whole thing could go without black

Sorry for the double post, however, I went ahead and made this image without the black lines and I went ahead and make the pixel size 1:1 as well. You're right the color bleed is much less apparent :)

I also do have some MSX images that were not conversions, if anyone is interested lol.

That you even have to ask! Smile
Your art is great, please share more of your goodies with us.

Wow! Thank you so much! I'm a huge fan of your youtube channel! Here's some of the art.

Really? A fan? That's always awesome to hear, and that keeps me inspired to do it at all. Smile Thank you.

About the art you just posted (which I can't stop gawking at), it seems that those four pieces belong to the same setting, am I correct?
Was it meant for a game, or a game concept at some point? If that won't be used in a game eventually, it'd almost be a crime against humanity. Wink

Have you ever considered venturing into screen 5 mode? So, 16 colours out of a palette of 512 combinations, and no "colour spill"?
Or screen 8, which nets you 256 colours to use freely. Etcetera, etcetera.
Or would that ruin the challenge of circumventing that very limit for you?

Thank you very much! Also, yes the art all belongs to the same setting Smile

You're in luck, it actually was a game concept! I had these images and a bunch of drawings done, I hope to make a game for it eventually lol

I'm assuming screen mode 5 is MSX2? I haven't ever considered it, but now that I know about it, I'd be glad to try and make some art with it! I do really enjoy the challenge of trying to make good work with the limitations, it's what got me into pixel art, but I think the screen mode 5 with only 16 colors would still be enough of a challenge to be a good time Smile

@ R_Leo_1: Yes, screen 5 and screen 8 are indeed MSX2 screen modes.
I mean, if you can do this within the MSX1 limitations, I look forward to what you could do with those slightly higher specs. Smile

If you would like to make your game concept a reality some time, I'm quite positive that there are some very nice people on this site who'd love to help you out with coding and maybe even the soundtrack. Wink

I would actually be very interested in that Big smile I tried to do some MSX coding with a C compiler, but I just couldn't get a grasp on it, so it would be amazing to get to actually learn it!
