nyyrikki is your routine will works on my Basic game ?
if yes, i would try it. Tongue

Yes and no... It needs some modifications... I'll explain:

Your code probably looks something like this:

10 screen 12
20 set page 0,1
30 bload"picture.scc",s
40 set page 1
.
.
.

If you run this on MSX2 you will get "Illegal function call"-error already on line 10 as the screenmode is not supported, so you need to change the program to look like this:

10 screen 8
20 set page 0,1
30 bload"picture.scc",s
35 bload"scc2sc8.bin",r:a=usr(211) ' 211 = Last line to convert
40 set page 1
.
.
.

This code may look a bit stupid on MSX2+ but the routine will anyway switch to SCREEN 12 if V9958 is available (MSX2+ not needed). I made two versions for you to test. One is with rastering (SCC2SC8R.BIN) and the other one is without. As I can see that you have already used rastering, I'm afraid that doing it again will cause more moire effects than good, but you need to test your self.

This routine now works only about half speed compared to the QUINPL patch as I've not done disk routines my self (as I don't know if you are using DOS2, directories, only DOS1 or...) Slowness comes from the fact that the data needs to travel from FDC -> RAM -> VRAM -> RAM -> VRAM. This is very slow on MSX. With custom loading routine FDC -> RAM -> VRAM is enough.

It might be that this routine is not good for you... You might only load partial screen areas that do not start from start of screen or do something else that I didn't think of as I don't know your engine. At the moment this routine loaded to #D400 and uses 256 bytes work area after code. If you want me to move it, no problem.

your opinion requested. !
- using external hardware to produce music for a Msx game is something you wish to have or not ?

If it’s external hardware that is common (like an FM-PAC or MoonSound), I think that’s fine Smile.

No, I'm talking about something attached to MSX, but no in a cartridge slot. Question

I think in the end the music is for the merit of the game, so if it causes a large part of the audience to play the game without music I think that would degrade the game experience. However if it’s more of an “extra” to the usual music (e.g. voice samples), or an alternative, then I think there is no problem.

My opinion Smile.
