Returning on my previous doubt: how to have Fuzix Z80 Root Filesystem on a real MSX device,
can it be a tool a-la Konamiman's MKROMDSK for creating a ROMDSK (a read-only disk drive with a disk-image on it) with Fuzix Root Filesystem in it a possible solution?
Can, then, all be done with a FlashRom cartridge (both Fuzix kernel + RootFS)?

Hi Giangiacomo,

yes, it can be done by adding a initromfs. I see you found the issue in GitHub!

please let me know if you make progress on this.

E.-

Hi All,

I like Fuzix as a demonstrator of what is possible. Are there people working to make it usable by adding user applications (or enabling them)? Making a unix like system with only very basic tools where people play around with grep etc will always stay a demonstrator.
I think about user software:
- a compiler, MSX needs a new (more) modern C compiler
- a native assembler/disassembler tool
- audio tools (/dev/PSG is in any MSX,/dev/SCC,/dev/fmpac,/dev/audio can be added dynamically)
- graphics capabilities

Has anyone ever thought about this or is the focus of Fuzix people just to get to a 1.0 environment for fun?

Hi Roland,
a compiler/assembler is being developed. But is not going to be (ehem) modern, but something more like a port of smallC.

still, main problem at the moment with FUZIX is that is far from stable; it's hell to build and install and it basically hangs after a while or depending of what apps you are running.

as you say, at the moment is just a toy for masochistic developers.

once is more stable possibly some MSX users that are also Unix/Linux users will start contributing and adding the MSX specific tools that you mention.

regards,
E.-

Sepulep,

you can run them using openmsx:

openmsx -extb MegaFlashROM_SCC+_SD -carta fuzix.ascii8.rom -extc debugdevice -hda fuzixfs.img -machine Panasonic_FS-A1GT

No, but with the openMSX debugger available, I would have expected it to become obsolete.

I use it too sometimes, handy to print out values to the console without breaking emulator execution.
