Hi all Nextor lovers over there! I have just opened a collection of boards in Trello to organize my development work on Nextor. It's publicly visible so if you are curious about what will the next feature have, what does it take to implement a certain feature, and/or how is the work progression, just enter and take a look: https://trello.com/nextor

Feel free to comment anything you want about what you see in the boards (ar about anything else related to the Nextor development) in this topic.

Hi Konamiman!!,

In first place, I want to thank you all your work developing Nextor. It's a mandatory tool for use with MegaFlashRom and other hardware.

One idea for your next version: What about to add support for "descript.ion" files?. As you will know, it's a old method using in PC for support long names before fat support it natively. It was used in FTP server too (even now). It will be very useful when we use 'dir' in combination with 80 character mode because it will allow to keep full description in files to create SD partition for example with all MSX TOSEC files. My only worries about it will be the performance, because it will be necessary to read full file in first place, and then, prepare the dir list (but you always can implement in an extra parameter in dir command and not in default mode).

Other very usefull functionality in 'dir' command will be a parameter to disconect check free space (like basic 'files' command), because in long partition it takes a long time to execute a simple dir command, and the most of time we dont need to check the space.

Thanks a lot again for your work!!

Regards,
Raúl

Perhaps a more approximate calculation of the free space in FAT16 would be preferable.

An utility that does exactly this has existed for years: DDIR.COM by Ramones. It works with MSX-DOS 2 and of course with Nextor.

This is the number 1 "complaint" about Nextor ... and the definitive proof for the fact that users do not read manuals. Smile

Use the RALLOC.COM tool supplied with Nextor to activate the reduced allocation information mode on your large drive. When this mode is active, Nextor stops calculating free space when it reaches 32MB.

Yes!! Sorry. Definitively I'm guilty this time. I dont check yet all the available tools distributed with Nextor and in the MegaFlash post someone commented the delay problem, so I supossed there is not solution. Sorry for that! I just checked and it works perfectly. I will add to start sequence to set as my default mode Nishi

About DDIR, I will try to find it. I found Ramones belong to Kralizec, but I dont see this tool available in MSX.org and I can't find Kralizec web. I will try to contact with Ramones directly and ask for it. In any case, thank you very much for your support and clarifications. Good luck with dsk file mount functionality in next Nextor Version. Waiting for it so much too!

Regards

Updates: I found DDIR in a old recopilation (MsxIsland recopilation). It works perfectly. I will add to the disk-rom installed in MEGAFLASH. Thanks!

I want to copy some files from partition 1 to partition 2 of my CF card and can't realize how to do that, I can map A: to the first partition, but can't map F: to the second one, all that I running mapdrv is an error, because I have only one letter per physical device (B: and C: are in MegaFlashRom SCC+SD and D: and E: in internal floppy).

To do my copy, I want to copy from CF card (on IDE) to SD card (on MegaFlashROM SCC+SD), then mapdrv A: to CF card second partition and copy from SD card to there.

Can we have some way to always have the 8 letters available and then can freely map each letter to each partition/device/whatever when using Nextor device based drivers?

Nextor allows mapping any drive, from A: to H:, to any partition of any device, provided that the device has standard partitions and that it is controlled by a Nextor device-based driver. What error message are you getting?

The command for mapping partition 2 of your card to drive F: would be:

MAPDRV F: 2 D S

where D is the device identifier for the card (for an IDE controller it would be 1 for the master device and 2 for the slave) and S is the slot of the controller.

Tested the mapdrv with only MegaFlashROM attached in slot 3, no other interfaces.
At boot A: is the "internal" disk and B: the first partition of my SD card. When I did:

mapdrv b: 3 2-1

All works fine, mapping B: to the third partition. But if I try to have a new letter:

mapdrv c: 2 2-1

Did not works. The system answers:

*** Invalid drive

But, if I use the same command with the slot included:

mapdrv c: 2 2-1 3-3

Works. Now I can map/remap C: using mapdrv without the slot number. So, the problem was with me, but I don't understand why the slot is optional to remap an already active letter but mandatory to map a new one.

Not specifying the slot number means "use the same slot number that is already mapped to the drive". At boot time drive C: is not mapped to anything at all, so there is no "current" slot number for that drive and therefore you have to supply it explicitly. Try to perform a second mapping on drive C: afterwards, but this time omitting the slot number, and you will see that it will work.

By the way, instead of the slot number you can specify the number 0, meaning "the slot of the primary controller". So regardless of the slot number you can use the following command as an equivalent to the one you are using:

mapdrv c: 2 2-1 0

Also, the LUN number is optional anf if not specified it is assumed to be 1, so you can simplify further to:

mapdrv c: 2 2 0
