Is there an MSX emulator which supports debugging (i.e. stepping through the Z80 instructions) under Mac OS X? It seems that for both fMSX and OpenMSX, the debug feature only works under Windows, is that correct? Any help or hints appreciated.

The openMSX debugger works on OS X, however you may have to build it yourself (not sure if they published OS X builds). I myself built a slightly older version which used Qt 4 (a07a65e), because I had some trouble installing Qt 5 with Homebrew, but I see it may have been fixed since.

Once you’ve got it up and running, you can enjoy the amazing step-back debugging feature Smile.

I just rebuilt the latest version and it went almost smoothly (had to uninstall qt4 and run make clean first).

Super simple build instructions here:

https://github.com/openMSX/debugger/blob/master/README

Before you build you need to have XCode installed, and install qt5 with Homebrew (brew install qt5).

It can also be downloaded from the openMSX web site, see the download box on http://openmsx.org/
